Their eyes lit up as we unboxed our new STEM discovery center materials. That initial sense of wonder set the tone for how transformative these resources have been in our room.\r\n\r\nWe have been using these hands-on materials during our daily math and science discovery stations. Recently, during a physics unit on balance and structure, small groups of students used the new building blocks and engineering sets to design bridges strong enough to hold toy cars. Watching them problem-solve together, collaborate, test their ideas, rebuild after a collapse, and cheer for one another when their structures held was an absolute highlight of our school year.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, our next step is to integrate these centers with our upcoming unit on habitats and environments. Students will use the STEM tools to design and construct mini-ecosystems for different animal figures, combining critical thinking, inquiry, and early engineering skills.
