We only had one Nintendo Switch and two monitors. But now, with the extra controllers and systems, we can now accommodate 3 playing stations.\r\n\r\nAs a result of this increased capacity, we've been able to recruit many more students, nearly tripling our regular attendance from 8-35 students! Not only do students show up to play the club's games, students are now bringing their own systems and setting up their own stations with their friends.\r\n\r\nOne of the club's main goals is to inspire socialization and for students to develop their interpersonal communication. The scientific calculators provide students with the tools they need to work through math problems more independently and confidently, especially when completing multi-step calculations. Having reliable chargers and power supplies also means that students can keep their devices ready throughout the school day instead of losing valuable instructional time because of a dead battery. The Amazon Fire tablet provides another flexible learning tool that can be used for digital assignments, educational resources, and individualized support.\r\n\r\nMy students have been especially excited about having technology that is readily available to them in the classroom. They enjoy being able to grab a calculator or device when they need one without worrying about whether they brought their own or whether it is charged. I have particularly noticed an impact on students who need additional academic support. Some students who are hesitant to begin a difficult math problem are much more willing to try when they have a calculator available, while others have responded positively to completing activities digitally on the tablet. The multi-colored paper has been especially helpful for our guided notes, assignments, and classroom activities. I use different colors to help students quickly identify materials for different lessons and organize their work. Recently, students used the colored paper for their math notes and practice activities, which made it much easier to find the correct notes when they needed to reference them later. When the supplies arrived, the students immediately noticed all the different colors and were excited to have something other than plain white paper. They were also surprisingly happy to see the huge supply of Kleenex! With allergies, colds, and the usual assortment of high school sniffles, they definitely understand how valuable that part of the donation is.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through our current math units, students will be building their notebooks with color-coded notes, examples, vocabulary, and practice assignments that they can reference throughout the semester. The colored paper will also be used for review activities and important resources that I want students to be able to locate quickly. For students who sometimes struggle with organization, having these visual cues can make classroom materials feel much more manageable.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue building students' confidence and independence as they work through new concepts and prepare for upcoming assessments.
