Coming back into the classroom after a year and a half of distance education, the majority of my students have struggled with interpersonal communications. This is exacerbated when I ask them to discuss politics in my U.S. Government and Economics classes. After a year and a half of living only on the internet, they seem to think that every discussion needs to be a sensationalized smack down session where Person X destroys Person Y to get the most TikTok views., Teaching kids how to prepare and execute civil discourse is essential to the preservation of our American experiment in democratic representative government. This directly addresses Nevada Standards SS.9-12.CE.3-10. Students will gather multiple sources of information, evaluating those sources. Then they will construct and refine arguments and present their arguments as they "participate in rigorous academic discourse" (SS.9-12.CE.10). In short, I plan to use these materials for students in small groups to plan verbal presentations and to give these presentations gravitas with the use of the podiums
