The graph paper has been especially helpful as students practice organizing their work and solving problems with fractions and multi-step equations. During one lesson, students used their notebooks and loose-leaf paper to show each step of their thinking while solving problems on graph paper, which helped them clearly line up their numbers and avoid common mistakes. The glue sticks have also been useful for interactive notebook activities, where students cut and glue notes and examples into their notebooks to create a reference they can return to throughout the unit.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials first arrived, my students were very excited. Many of them immediately noticed the fresh notebooks and supplies and were eager to start using them. Several students commented on how the graph paper made their work look \"neater\" and easier to follow. Having their own materials ready to use helped students feel more prepared and confident to participate in class activities and discussions.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these resources while working on problem-solving activities and collaborative lessons. We are currently building stronger math reasoning skills by showing and explaining our work, and the notebooks and paper allow students to keep track of their thinking over time. In upcoming lessons, students will work on more complex problems and small group activities where they will apply the strategies they have been practicing. These materials will continue to support their learning and help them stay organized as they build their math skills.","fullyFundedDate":1768521433576,"projectUrl":"project/math-minimums/10017545/","projectTitle":"Math Minimums","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Holyoak","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3650044_orig.jpg?crop=2237,2237,x312,y372&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1699906266005","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3650044"},{"teacherId":8138996,"projectId":10000621,"letterContent":"Thank you for your contribution to making our theatre program and classroom a more holistic and enriching space for young performers to work on their craft. Your support directly strengthens the daily work we do with students. The printer toner ensures that we can provide consistent access to counseling resources, coping skill worksheets, safety plans, classroom guidance materials, and family communication without interruption. Having reliable supplies allows me to respond quickly when students are in crisis, need academic planning support, or simply require structured tools to process their emotions. Your contribution helps remove barriers so that students receive timely and meaningful care.\r\n\r\nThe fidget toys and books have already made a noticeable impact. Many of our students struggle with anxiety, attention challenges, or overwhelming emotions, and the fidgets provide a simple but powerful way to regulate their bodies so they can focus and engage in conversation. The new books offer students mirrors and windows—stories where they can see themselves reflected and also build empathy for others. The beautiful bookends have helped us create an inviting, organized space that feels safe and welcoming. Your donations helped create an engaging, low-pressure environment where students could laugh together, take intellectual risks, and build a genuine sense of camaraderie as they worked through the text and answered multiple-choice questions in teams. The game format encouraged everyone to participate, making our class a place where critical thinking and collaboration happened side by side. \r\n\r\nAcademically, this activity served as a powerful formative assessment of students' skills in analyzing rhetoric. As they annotated the text and discussed the choices identified, students practiced tracing Didion's arguments and articulating how specific language choices shape meaning. The Jenga game gave them a fun, tangible way to demonstrate their understaing while also providing me with valuable insight into what skills they've mastered and which need more honing and development. \r\n\r\nI'm grateful for the Jenga sets, the pens that allowed students to annotate their texts, and the Sharpie markers used to create special bonus pieces marked with symbols. Going forward, I plan to use the Jenga towers to help students review for unit tests. In small groups, they will read passages, answer multiple-choice questions, and have a chance to pull a Jenga piece and earn points by choosing the correct answer. Your generosity has not only enriched one memorable lesson, but will continue to support meaningful, interactive, and appropriately challenging and competitive learning experiences for my students throughout the years to come. Your generosity helps create a safe, welcoming space where students feel comfortable opening up, managing stress, and planning for their future. These resources make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of the students I serve, and I am truly grateful for your kindness and support.\r\nBecause of you, my office has been transformed into an environment that truly feels warm and inviting. The new floor lamp has added a soft, calming glow that immediately changes the tone of the room. Instead of the harsh overhead lighting that can sometimes feel clinical or intimidating, students now walk into a space that feels peaceful and comforting. That gentle light makes it easier for them to relax, breathe deeply, and begin conversations that are often difficult to start.\r\nThe love seat has quickly become a favorite spot in the room. It provides a cozy and supportive place for students to sit during our sessions. For many of them, having a comfortable place to settle in helps lower their guard. When they feel physically comfortable, they are more willing to share their thoughts, feelings, and worries. The love seat has helped create an atmosphere that feels less like an office and more like a safe haven.\r\nThe Fabric Storage Cubes have also made a tremendous difference. Organization plays a powerful role in creating a sense of calm. With these storage cubes, materials for coping skills activities, journals, art supplies, and sensory tools are neatly arranged and easily accessible. Students are able to independently choose tools that support their emotional regulation, which fosters both confidence and self-awareness. A well-organized space communicates care, intention, and stability—qualities that are essential in a counseling setting.\r\nThe hanging plant has brought life and vibrancy into the room. Something as simple as greenery can have a profound impact on mood and well-being. The addition of the iPad has expanded the ways I can support students academically, socially, and emotionally. It allows me to access mindfulness exercises, social-emotional learning activities, and goal-setting tools in engaging and interactive ways. For students who struggle to express themselves verbally, digital tools often provide an alternative outlet for communication and reflection. The iPad has become a valuable resource for connecting with students in ways that feel relevant and empowering.\r\nYour generosity has done more than provide furniture and supplies—it has strengthened a space where healing, growth, and resilience happen every day. Because of you, students have a welcoming environment where they feel seen, heard, and supported.\r\nThank you again for believing in our counseling program and in the potential of every student we serve. Because of your generosity, I will participate in this transformative training in Summer 2026, where I will deepen my understanding of how to intentionally cultivate human-centered thinking skills in an age increasingly shaped by artificial intelligence. Your support is not simply funding professional development. It is strengthening the intellectual and emotional futures of the students I serve every day.\r\n\r\nThis upcoming training will equip me with research-based tools to teach students how to think critically, reflect deeply, regulate their attention, and use emerging technologies responsibly rather than passively. In a world where answers are increasingly automated, my students will be learning how to ask better questions, analyze information thoughtfully, and rely on their own reasoning and discernment. I am especially excited to integrate structured thinking routines and metacognitive strategies into my classroom so that students become more aware of how they learn, not just what they learn. This work directly supports their academic growth, their confidence, and their long-term independence.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful moments I anticipate is watching students realize that their minds are their greatest asset. When a student pauses before turning to a screen for an answer and instead works through a problem independently, that is human intelligence in action. This training will allow me to design lessons that elevate those moments and celebrate them. I am also looking forward to expanding this work into discussions about digital ethics, focus, and attention, helping students understand both the power and the limits of AI tools.\r\n\r\nYour generosity ensures that my students will not simply adapt to the future.
