It was incredibly special to watch their reactions when they realized that these books were not part of our classroom library—they were theirs to keep!\r\n\r\nThe books gave us an opportunity to have meaningful conversations about how students spend their time outside of school and the importance of finding balance in a world where screens are such a big part of everyday life. Students were excited to flip through the book, share activities and ideas that caught their attention, and talk with their classmates about hobbies and interests they would like to try.\r\n\r\nMore importantly, this project allowed us to send our students into their next chapter with something meaningful in their hands. As they move on from sixth grade, we hope they continue returning to the book for new ideas and inspiration. Our goal was not simply to give them something to read, but to encourage them to stay curious, try new things, build healthy habits, and discover the interests that make them who they are.\r\n\r\nWe are so grateful to our donors for helping us celebrate our students and their growth. The cushioned surface is especially appropriate for the medically-fragile students who rely on having a safe surface to work and play upon. Supporting medically-fragile students in a public school setting can at times be challenging; however, being able to make some environmental adaptations is key. Thank you for making that happen! Our new classroom carpet is truly helping to foster an inclusive environment for academic and social participation for everyone!\r\nThis new resource may look like a simple carpet used for aesthetic reasons only, but that couldn't be further from the truth. Thanks to you, students are able to have a safe space to go to either alone or with a peer. It is also a learning tool as students use the alphabet for receptive and expressive identification tasks. Next steps for our classroom, is to create another Donors Choose project asking for a larger classroom carpet.
