I am in the process of making a sensory room in my classroom and need several lighting devices and other sensory materials to make their environment conducive to learning for my Lifeskills classroom. The type of learning environment that my students need is more sensory-based and will help them access materials and activities through their senses. I have students with multiple disabilities and vision and/or hearing losses. They need a more tactile, visual and multi-sensory approach to learning. Stimulating their senses through the use of textures, visuals, calming lights and aroma therapy allows my students to focus, explore, engage, activate one or all of their senses. My students will use these resources on a daily basis and during sensory-based center activities. Switches will be used to activate the lights and lighting in the room will be adjusted to meet their needs.
