Your generosity has given our students the opportunity to discover that books can open the door to creativity, curiosity, and self-expression. Through these texts, students learned about the lives, backgrounds, and artistic styles of a variety of artists while practicing important reading skills such as finding information, learning new vocabulary, identifying key details, making connections, and sharing what they learned. The books became a source of inspiration as students studied different artistic techniques and then created their own artwork inspired by an artist's style while adding their own ideas and personal touches. Students learned that studying another artist's techniques is not about simply copying—it is about learning new tools that can help them develop their own unique voice as artists.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is much more than sitting quietly with a book. Students read, talk, wonder, research, create, and make connections across subjects. This came to life through our culminating art show, Art in Motion. Students researched their chosen artists in the library with support from our school librarian and used what they learned from their books to guide their artwork. They then collaborated across content areas to bring their creations to life. In computer class, students used robotics skills to make their artwork move or light up, and some students created music in music class to accompany their pieces. Watching students proudly explain their artists, their artwork, and the technology they used reminded us that reading can be the beginning of something much bigger. Even our local news channel came in that day to show our community the great work our students are doing in our school. \r\n\r\nOne of the most rewarding parts of this project was seeing students who sometimes struggle with traditional reading become genuinely excited to read because they had a meaningful reason to do so. They wanted to learn more about their artists. They wanted to find the details that would help them create. They wanted to share what they discovered with their classmates. Most importantly, they began to see themselves as readers, researchers, creators, and artists. When students saw their finished artwork move, light up, and come together as part of Art in Motion, their pride was unmistakable. Your support helped make that experience possible. You didn't just provide books—you provided our students with opportunities to explore, create, collaborate, and discover that their ideas have value. Thank you for helping our students turn the pages of a book into something truly their own.","fullyFundedDate":1687009735924,"projectUrl":"project/create-inspire-dream-diverse-books/7309529/","projectTitle":"Create! Thanks to your support, we were able to create clearly labeled bins and signage that make it easier for students to navigate the library independently and discover books that reflect their identities, interests, and experiences.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been remarkable. Students are spending less time searching for books and more time reading them. The organized sections help even our youngest learners confidently locate topics they enjoy, whether they are looking for books about animals, sports, friendship, diverse cultures, or favorite authors. Students are excited to browse the shelves, and many have shared that they have found books they may never have discovered before.\r\n\r\nThe improved organization has also increased student independence. Rather than relying on an adult to help them find a book, students can use the labels and signage to explore the library on their own. This has built confidence, encouraged curiosity, and empowered students to take ownership of their reading choices.\r\n\r\nBecause of The DonorsChoose Community, our library is now a more inclusive and inviting space where students can more easily find books that serve as both mirrors of their own experiences and windows into the lives of others. Your support has helped create an environment where every child feels welcome, valued, and inspired to read.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping us make our library a place where every student can truly find themselves in a book.","fullyFundedDate":1778029038479,"projectUrl":"project/find-yourself-in-a-book/10048440/","projectTitle":"Find Yourself in a Book!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Card","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9063060_orig.jpg?crop=464,464,x0,y13&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1737656818687","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9063060"},{"teacherId":9063060,"projectId":10087357,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting our project, *Growing Readers with Fresh New Books*. Because of your generosity, my students have had the opportunity to experience history in a way that is engaging, meaningful, and memorable.\r\n\r\nAs an elementary school librarian in a Title I school, I am always looking for ways to make learning accessible and exciting for all students. The books we received through this project, including titles from the \"I Survived\" series, have transformed the way students interact with historical events. Rather than simply reading facts from a textbook, students are able to step into the shoes of young people who lived through important moments in history.\r\n\r\nThese books have sparked curiosity and encouraged students to ask thoughtful questions about the past. Students who were previously reluctant readers eagerly sought out the next book in the series, while others explored additional resources to learn more about the historical events they encountered in the stories. The books have become some of the most requested titles in our library.\r\n\r\nBeyond improving reading engagement, these stories have helped students build empathy and deepen their understanding of history. Through discussions, projects, and independent reading, students have made meaningful connections between historical events and the experiences of people who lived through them.\r\n\r\nYour support has not only put books into the hands of students—it has inspired a love of reading and learning that will continue long after these books have been checked out and returned.
