We spend so much time together on the rug that it really is important to have a space that looks and feels welcoming to gather. I also absolutely love it for both its functionality but also the ability to not show every mark since the background is black. \r\n\r\nEach day we come to the rug to learn, share experiences, have discussions, and do hard things. It is literally the most used space in the classroom and we are so thankful to have been able to get this project funded. After spending five years in a high school setting, I have had to start from scratch working with elementary school students and the supplies you helped provide have made a world of difference in my sessions with students.\r\n\r\nCooperative board games are a huge favorite with my primary and intermediate grade students. Games from this project like Hoot Owl Hoot and Race to the Treasure give my students opportunities to practice following rules and routines, taking turns, and working with peers toward a shared goal. They hardly realize they're building important skills while they're playing! \r\n\r\nBooks about friendship, emotions, and decision making help my students process their own experiences through the lens of a fictional character and model new skills that my students can use to navigate unfamiliar or challenging situations. My students love reading about Elephant and Piggie's shenanigans and comparing the characters' friendship to the relationships they have in their own lives. Another favorite book this year has been \"A Little Spot of Feelings,\" which taught them how to be emotion detectives and look for clues to how themselves and others are feeling.\r\n\r\nI am so grateful for your help making my social work room a place where students feel safe, supported, and ready to learn.
