These kiddos need some stimulating math activities to boost their critical thinking and problem-solving skills. Plus, they need to know that math is awesome and is everywhere! I want them to be excited about coming to math class and solving challenging problems with their friends. They don't need to be afraid of math, even if it's often challenging. Perseverance and stamina are integral to their learning, but the rewards are immeasurable. They need our help and support. Through games and small-group hands-on activities, math can become real and concrete. These tools will help in building a strong foundation in understanding central math concepts, and also prepare them for their transition to upper level math while paving the way for more algebraic thinking. With the use of visuals and hands-on manipulatives, geometry and fractions will be easier to grasp and understand. Learning probability with spinners and dice will be so much more fun and concrete. They will be able to use their bean bags in their cozy math corners when they work on one of the math stations, too! In their small groups, they will be able to work with me and their peers on problem solving skills and strategic thinking, modified to their differing levels. With these math tools, these kiddos will love working with challenging numbers and math concepts. STEM is where it's at!
