I wrap up the games and tell them the Gingerbread Man left it for them. The kids are always so excited the next day to come tell me what was in their package and families are so grateful to have the game at home to play with their families. My students are very grateful to have access to paper towels to both clean their desks but also in case of a spill. This immediate boost in confidence was a joy to witness, especially for my struggling readers who often feel intimidated by standard texts. We are now using these books during our daily phonics rotations where students proudly sound out words and share stories with their partners.\r\n\r\nThe impact has been transformative during our small group sessions where I can now provide targeted practice for specific letter sounds. One standout moment was seeing a student who previously avoided reading finally finish an entire book with a huge smile. Moving forward, my students will use these readers to build their reading fluency and transition into more complex narratives. My students gathered around with wide eyes as we peeled back the tape to reveal the granola bars, fruit snacks, and crackers that your generosity provided. One of my 2nd graders looked at the organized rows of food and whispered, \"We don't have to worry about being hungry today,\" which served as a powerful reminder of how much these basic resources mean to their sense of security and focus. It was a heartwarming start to our journey with these new supplies, and the students were eager to help organize our new \"Fuel Station\" where they can now grab what they need without any barriers or questions.\r\n\r\nWe have integrated these snacks directly into our daily morning routine to ensure that every student starts their academic day on equal footing. A specific moment that stands out occurred during our intensive math block last Tuesday, which is usually a time when focus begins to wane and stomachs start to growl. Instead of the usual restlessness, I was able to pass around healthy options that kept their energy levels steady while we tackled a difficult new unit on long division. I watched a group of students who typically struggle to stay on task remain completely engaged in their peer-collaboration groups because they weren't distracted by physical discomfort. It has been incredible to see how a simple snack can turn a frustrating lesson into a productive breakthrough for a child who just needed a bit of brain food.\r\n\r\nThe next steps for my students involve a new project where we are linking our healthy snacks to our science and health curriculum. We are currently analyzing the nutrition labels on the items you provided to learn about energy, proteins, and how our bodies use fuel to think and move. The students are even starting a \"Health Journal\" where they track how they feel after eating a balanced snack versus how they feel when they skip a meal. Moving forward, this project will culminate in a student-led presentation about the importance of nutrition in our community, allowing them to use the resources you sent as the foundation for both their physical well-being and their academic growth.","fullyFundedDate":1758222037282,"projectUrl":"project/fueling-young-minds-with-healthy-snacks/9653487/","projectTitle":"Fueling Young Minds with Healthy Snacks","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Sawyer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5583503_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756053551039","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/misssawyer"},{"teacherId":5583503,"projectId":8388613,"letterContent":"I cannot thank you enough for your incredible generosity! Because of your support, our new classroom stations are officially up and running. These literacy and math games have completely transformed our daily routine, turning what used to be a standard review period into the most anticipated part of our school day.\r\n\r\nThe Big Reveal\r\nWhen the boxes arrived and we began unpacking the flashcards, writing prompts, and math manipulatives, the room was buzzing with pure excitement. One of my students literally cheered when they saw the colorful literacy games, shouting, \"Is this for us?!\" There is a unique kind of magic that happens when students realize that people they've never even met care enough about their education to send them brand-new tools. That initial spark of joy has transitioned into a deep sense of pride in their \"new\" classroom.\r\n\r\nResources in Action\r\nWe are currently using these resources to fuel our small-group rotations. A specific highlight has been our \"Story Builder\" station. Last week, I watched a group of three students who usually struggle with writing spend twenty minutes huddled together, using the new prompt cards to weave a hilarious tale about a space-traveling cat. Instead of staring at a blank page in frustration, they were laughing, collaborating, most importantly, writing. In math, the new tactile games have turned \"boring\" addition drills into a high-energy competition where students are mastering their facts without even realizing they're working.\r\n\r\nLooking Ahead\r\nThe next step for my students is to take the lead in their own learning. Now that they have mastered the basics of these stations, I am introducing student-led \"Expert\" roles, where one student teaches a peer a new game or strategy using the materials you provided. This not only reinforces their literacy and math skills but also builds their confidence and leadership. Your gift has provided much more than just games; you've given us a vibrant, hands-on environment where every student feels they have the tools to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1715954505888,"projectUrl":"project/station-nation/8388613/","projectTitle":"Station Nation!","teacherDisplayName":"Dr. Sawyer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5583503_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1756053551039","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/misssawyer"},{"teacherId":5583503,"projectId":8159833,"letterContent":"The morning the large box arrived, the air in our classroom was thick with anticipation. We recently sat in a circle and read about the Anxiety Spot. As we turned the pages, I held up the gray plushie. I watched as several students' faces softened with recognition. They began to understand that the \"fluttery feeling\" in their tummies wasn't a problem to be hidden, it was just a \"Spot\" that needed a little help.\r\n\r\nA Lasting Gift\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students are learning that no feeling is \"bad\"—they are all just \"Spots\" that we can learn to manage. Having access to a reliable printer made it possible for students to turn their ideas and research into something they could see, hold, and proudly present.\r\n\r\nThe printer has also been especially helpful for our ESL students as they studied World War II. Students researched key events and created exhibit boards to share what they learned with the class. This new system also quickly allows me to check on students status of independent work as it is all in one location. \r\nHaving the new organization tools has increased our time on learning as students are not digging through their backpacks looking for a paper that may not be in the correct folder.
