Kindergarten and first grade teachers from my school recently took a trip to Italy to study the Reggio-Emilia Approach to Learning. This experience has more than inspired us to bring elements of this approach into our kindergarten and first grade classrooms. Part of the work we are doing to implement this highly innovative and progressive learning style, is to bring in high quality art integration using materials like oil pastels, graphite sticks, clay, and wire. With these materials, and a few others, we can begin to let our students express themselves, and their learning through a multitude of languages. Using these materials to explore new learning and express their learning is especially beneficial to our students, who are predominantly English Language Learners. I hope that you will support us on this new endeavor, by helping my first grade class receive these highly engaging materials!
