Just wanted to share one way our class has utilized the many books donated in this classroom. My students have been focusing on opinion writing and \"A Pig Parade Is A Terrible Idea\" was a great way to reinforce opinion statements and reasons to support an opinion. It was engaging and such a crazy sounding opinion that the class was hooked immediately. We then were able to recall reasons we heard in the text through our own illustrations. The students loved the story and loved being able to show their creativity afterward. This really helped kickstarting the idea of opinion writing being a bit dramatic, but definitely works for this genre of writing.\r\n\r\nOverall, I think being able to have a refresh of different books in the library and also new additions as supplemental resources for lessons helped bring excitement into the students learning.","fullyFundedDate":1741965235334,"projectUrl":"project/books-and-materials-anyone/9158620/","projectTitle":"Books and Materials Anyone?","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Baraoidan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8355742_orig.jpg?crop=1170,1170,x0,y206&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759261384480","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8355742"},{"teacherId":8355742,"projectId":8878802,"letterContent":"Thank you again for your generosity in funding this project. This was a great way for me to build and foster positive relationships with the families in my classroom by communicating the progress of their child throughout the year. For students who often struggle, having \"special\" high-quality tools made them feel that their education was a priority. The motivational prizes became a cornerstone of our daily routine; we used them to celebrate not just correct answers, but the persistence and growth mindset required to tackle difficult state testing prep.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, my students are now more willing to take risks in their learning. By physically manipulating tiles to represent phonemes before writing them on their new whiteboards, my students are no longer just memorizing words—they are decoding the DNA of language. This multisensory approach has accelerated their ability to bridge the gap between spoken sounds and written symbols, leading to a noticeable increase in reading fluency across the board. The kits have turned abstract concepts into a hands-on reality, giving every child the \"aha!\" moment they deserve.\r\n\r\nBecause of the materials provided, I have been able to elevate my instructional practice to a level of precision that wasn't possible before. With the organized storage and individual kits, I can now execute high-intensity, small-group sessions with zero downtime, maximizing every minute of our literacy block. I am incredibly proud to use these resources to support the rigorous literacy goals. By using the new manipulatives to physically slide \"sounds\" into place before writing them on their personal whiteboards, students are effectively \"bonding\" the pronunciation of a word to its letter sequence. This hands-on approach moves them beyond simple memorization; they are literally building a sight-word vocabulary in real-time.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the kits, their excitement was evident. One specific moment that stands out involved a student who had been struggling to connect spoken sounds to written symbols. Using the new manipulatives, they physically pushed a tile for each phoneme as they spoke, then immediately mapped those sounds to letters on their whiteboard. The look of pure triumph on their face when the physical movement finally clicked with the auditory sound was a powerful reminder of why these kinesthetic resources are so vital for literacy development.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to use these kits for \"Heart Word\" instruction—identifying the irregular parts of high-frequency words that students must learn \"by heart.\" Because the kits provide easy access to markers and boards, we can quickly transition from segmenting regular words to color-coding these tricky \"heart\" parts. Your support has not only organized our classroom but has also provided the precise tools needed to turn struggling decoders into confident, fluent readers.","fullyFundedDate":1759454842807,"projectUrl":"project/motivation-to-mastery-incentives-in-rea/9774338/","projectTitle":"Motivation to Mastery: Incentives in Reading Programs","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tamaru","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1795627"},{"teacherId":8618636,"projectId":9772942,"letterContent":"Your incredible generosity has transformed our classroom into a vibrant laboratory for \"word detectives.\" As a special education teacher, my goal is always to bridge the gap between frustration and fluency, and your donation of morphology and reading recovery resources has provided the exact bridge my 5th graders needed.\r\n\r\nWe have been putting the morphology games and prefix/suffix tiles to use every single day. \r\n\r\nMoving forward, we are using the mapping kits and dry-erase boards to create \"Word Trees.\" We are also using the laminating sheets and cardstock to create personalized \"Strategy Rings\" that each student can keep at their desk. Here is how your donation came to life:\r\n\r\nEarning with Purpose: Students earned \"class cash\" by showing up on time, helping peers, completing homework, showing kindness, and taking initiative in their learning.\r\n\r\nAt the end of the quarter, the \"Class Store\" opened! Seeing the students weigh their options—deciding whether to spend their earnings on a small prize now or save up for a \"big ticket\" item next quarter—was a masterclass in delayed gratification. They practiced addition and subtraction during transactions, learned about supply and demand, and took immense pride in \"buying\" items with money they earned themselves.\r\n\r\nThe \"Big Learning Energy\" in the room on market day is palpable. One student recently told me, \"I didn't know saving money could feel this good!\" That shift in mindset—from passive consumer to active, responsible earner—is entirely thanks to your investment in our classroom.\r\n\r\nYour kindness didn't just provide prizes; it provided a season of lessons that these students will carry with them long after they leave my grade. When the materials arrived, my students' faces lit up with excitement—they couldn't wait to explore everything. The flexible floor desks quickly became a favorite, giving students choice in where and how they learn. I've noticed increased focus, comfort, and confidence, especially from students who struggle to sit still at traditional tables. The popper fidgets have transformed our phonics time; students now tap and pop as they blend CVC words, turning sound work into a hands-on, joyful experience. Learning feels playful, and engagement has soared.\r\n\r\nThe magnetic geometric shapes, pattern block design cards, and dry-erase materials are now a daily part of our math and literacy centers. Students eagerly build, design, draw, erase, and try again—practicing perseverance and problem-solving without fear of making mistakes. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students collaborate on a pattern block design, explaining their thinking to one another using math language they've been practicing. The reusable materials I'm able to create with cardstock, laminating sheets, and dry-erase pockets have made lessons more organized, sustainable, and accessible for all learners.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, these resources will continue to support differentiated instruction and hands-on learning across every subject. The construction paper has been used for projects in the classroom and to help with our school's door decorating contest. The art items helped us put up all sorts of the students' creations on the door with ease. The students really enjoyed the door decorating competition and there was no stress with having to provide them with the needed supplies for this project. Some of the other supplies are slated to be used for our upcoming PBL project where the students will be building a roller coaster.
