The calculators have helped students focus less on computational frustration and more on understanding concepts, analyzing patterns, and building confidence in their reasoning skills. Meanwhile, the mobile whiteboard has become an exciting collaborative space where students can visually organize their thinking, solve problems together, and explain their ideas in real time. These tools have made learning more interactive, engaging, and student-centered.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the opportunity to actively participate and share their thinking with classmates. The mobile whiteboard encourages collaboration and discussion, transforming problem-solving into a team effort rather than an isolated task. Several students who were once hesitant to participate have become more willing to volunteer solutions and explain their reasoning during lessons. The calculators have also helped students who struggle with lengthy computations feel more confident tackling challenging problems, allowing them to focus on higher-level thinking instead of becoming discouraged by arithmetic errors.\r\n\r\nYour support has done more than provide classroom tools — it has helped foster confidence, perseverance, and a stronger sense of community among my students. The 3D printers have transformed our classroom into a space where students can think creatively, experiment freely, and immediately see the results of their work.\r\n\r\nThe filament has allowed students to design and print prototypes for engineering challenges, classroom projects, and real-world problem solving activities. Students use CAD software to create original designs, then print and test them to see what works and what needs improvement. This process teaches critical thinking, perseverance, and the importance of iteration — skills that are essential in engineering and many future careers.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting parts for students is watching their digital ideas become real physical objects layer by layer on the printer. Many students who were initially unsure about engineering have become deeply engaged once they saw they could create something tangible with their own designs. Students are constantly excited to check on their prints, troubleshoot issues, and improve their prototypes after testing them.\r\n\r\nThe glue gun has also helped students assemble their printed parts into larger working models and complete engineering builds. Students collaborate more, communicate more effectively, and take greater ownership of their projects when they can physically construct and refine their ideas.\r\n\r\nSome students who struggle in traditional academic settings have especially connected with this technology. Hands-on engineering gives them a chance to shine, build confidence, and demonstrate their creativity and problem-solving abilities in ways that paper-and-pencil assignments often cannot. Seeing students become proud of their work and excited about learning has been one of the most rewarding outcomes of this project.\r\n\r\nBecause of this project, students are not just learning about engineering — they are experiencing what it feels like to be engineers.","fullyFundedDate":1771605760523,"projectUrl":"project/keeping-innovation-in-motion-3d-printin/10103491/","projectTitle":"Keeping Innovation in Motion: 3D Printing for Future Engineers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Kealoha","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7504125_orig.jpg?crop=2150,2150,x1814,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1598983409563","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7504125"},{"teacherId":7942223,"projectId":8157503,"letterContent":"I want to thank you for taking the time and contributing your precious resources to provide my students with tools that will expose them to potential future careers in agriculture. A standout moment occurred last week when we tackled quadratic functions. \r\n\r\nWhile half the class used the Casio FX-115ESPLUS calculators to find the vertex and roots of a complex equation, the other half gathered around the Magnetic Coordinate Plane. Instead of squinting at a tiny piece of graph paper, students physically placed magnets to \"trace\" the curve of the parabola and points of linear equations. Watching them debate the placement of the y-intercept and then seeing their faces light up as the shape emerged on a large scale was incredible. It turned a solitary task into a collaborative, visual victory. \r\n\r\nThe Big Reveal: Initial Reactions When the boxes arrived, the students were genuinely touched. Their eyes went straight to the Power Towers first, strangely enough, nothing says \"I care about your success\" to a teenager quite like a guaranteed battery charge! One student picked up a Casio calculator and remarked, \"Wait, these look like the ones engineers actually use.\" There was a distinct shift in their posture; they weren't just \"doing schoolwork\" anymore; they felt like professionals. They were especially excited about the magnetic plane, with one student joking that they finally had a \"GPS for math\" that they could actually see from the back of the room. \r\n\r\nWhat's Next: Mapping the Real World \r\nNow that we have the fundamentals down, our next step is a \"Path of a Projectile\" project.\r\nStudents will be:\r\n1. Modeling: Using the calculators to determine the path of a launched object using the formula: \r\n2. Visualizing: Mapping those trajectories on the Magnetic Coordinate Plane to compare different launch angles.\r\n3. Integrating Technology: Using their fully charged Chromebooks to record their data and create digital presentations of their findings. \r\n\r\nYour support has ensured that no student is sidelined by a dead battery or a lack of clarity. When the students walked in and saw the new rugs and the fresh whiteboards waiting at their desks, their eyes lit up—it was as if the room had transformed into a professional studio for thinkers. They were genuinely touched that someone outside of our school cared enough to invest in their learning, and that sense of being \"seen\" immediately boosted our classroom morale and collaborative spirit.\r\nBy blending organizational tools with active thinking materials, we have created a classroom that feels more cohesive and intellectually vibrant. We have adopted a \"Visible Thinking\" approach where students use the new whiteboards for vertical collaboration.
