My students have so enjoyed the many resources you have provided.\r\n\r\nThe \"Vertical\" Breakthrough \"The moment the new Whiteboards arrived, the entire dynamic of my classroom changed. I immediately set them up as vertical learning stations around the perimeter of the room. In a 9th-grade inclusion setting, it's easy for a student who is struggling to 'hide' behind a desk or a laptop. These whiteboards have eliminated that barrier. Now, my students are up on their feet, moving, and collaborating. There's no more hiding—only doing. Because whiteboards feel 'non-permanent,' students who were previously afraid of making a mistake are now taking risks, knowing they can easily erase and try again.\"\r\n\r\n\"In my RTI (Response to Intervention) sessions, we recently tackled one of the biggest hurdles for 9th-grade geometry: the abstract nature of multiplication. For many of my students, numbers on a page don't always translate to physical reality. Using the Multiplication Pop-its, students were able to engage their kinesthetic memory to 'feel' the groups. We then transitioned to the Geoboards, where they stretched rubber bands to create physical arrays. Watching a student's face light up as they realized that a $3 \\times 4$ array on a Geoboard occupied the same 'space' as 12 pops on their Pop-it was incredible. They weren't just memorizing times tables; they were visualizing area—a foundational skill for everything we do in Geometry.\"\r\n\r\nOur Next Big Step: Building with Legos\r\n\"Now that my students have a firm grasp on how numbers multiply and divide into arrays, we are ready for our next challenge: Fractions.\r\n\r\nUsing the Lego Fractions student booklets and teacher guides, we are going to take that understanding of 'parts' and 'wholes' to a new level. Legos are the perfect tool for this because they are inherently fractional—a 4-stud brick is exactly half of an 8-stud brick. Our next series of lessons will involve:\r\n\r\nBuilding Models: Physically snapping bricks together to see how different fractions create a whole.\r\n\r\nConnecting to Geometry: Taking those Lego models and sketching them onto our vertical whiteboards to calculate ratios.\r\n\r\nBridging the Gap: Moving from these physical blocks to the complex fractional scaling we use in geometric dilations.\"","fullyFundedDate":1759598325662,"projectUrl":"project/making-math-click-hands-on-tools-for-ac/9780873/","projectTitle":"Making Math Click: Hands-On Tools for Active Learners!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bryant","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9175786_orig.jpg?crop=3000,3000,x0,y500&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1715022782020","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9175786"},{"teacherId":10294721,"projectId":9778227,"letterContent":"Thank you so very much for making our DonorsChoose project possible. I was able to implement a catch where students need to tell me one thing they learned that day before picking a snack and they've been great about being thoughtful in describing complicated math equations or even something as simple as the workout they did in their weight training class. The snacks have provided a fun way to connect quickly and check-in with so many.\r\nThe laminator has already proven its worth by helping to create resources to aid in the counseling department's registration presentations.
