The goal is for students to conduct comprehensive, in-depth, sustained investigations utilizing an inquiry-based approach to create a series of sequential artworks for public exhibition. Students will be provided with resources and time to engage in their investigation with art and design beyond the classroom. They will be given the freedom to choose their interest to conduct an in-depth investigation as they work beyond the typical class schedule. This is especially important because it addresses the current situation of learning with restrictions placed on educational institutions in light of Covid19. By offering students a greater choice in their fine art studies, they will be more engaged and responsible for their growth as art students. The art classroom-based solely on national and state-level standards and benchmarks does not include this higher-level thinking factor. Students will conduct a sustained investigation through design development, practice using various application techniques, experimentation and revision in response to guided questions, synthesize ideas, mediums and materials, and processes, and develop artists’ statements and articulate in writing comprehensive information about the development of personal artworks.
