For kids with autism and other unique needs, having brand-new tools brought into the room just for them made them feel really special and cared for.\r\n\r\nWe use these tools every single day to keep our room calm and running smoothly. Just the other day, one of my students had a tough time after a noisy, hectic transition and was feeling really agitated and overwhelmed. I pulled out the expanding breathing ball, and we worked on opening it up when taking a big breath in and collapsing it on the breath out. Having that visual guide helped them focus on breathing, while squishing and molding the kinetic sand gave them something relaxing to do with their hands. Within a few minutes, they were completely settled down, feeling better, and ready to jump right back into class with everyone else.\r\n\r\nUp next, we're going to put our new cooking supplies to good use with some hands-on cooking projects. The students will work in small groups to follow visual recipe cards, measure out ingredients, and practice working together which is a fun, real-world way to practice math and life skills.
