It provides students with a safe, comfortable place to regulate their emotions, practice coping strategies, and return to learning feeling ready and supported.\r\n\r\nThe K'NEX have been an incredible hands-on learning tool. My students are using them to build, problem-solve, collaborate, and strengthen fine motor and engineering skills. Watching their creativity and confidence grow as they work with these materials has been amazing.\r\n\r\nThe fruit snacks in our reward bin have also been a meaningful addition. They serve as positive reinforcement that motivates students to make good choices, complete tasks, and celebrate their successes in a simple but impactful way.\r\n\r\nYour kindness has helped create a classroom environment that is supportive, engaging, and student-centered. The seat cushions and SoftZone folding floor mats have quickly become favorite spots for independent reading, reflection breaks, and small-group work. One memorable moment was during reading time, when a student who often struggles to stay regulated chose a floor mat, grabbed a sensory disc, and quietly practiced breathing until they felt ready to rejoin the group. The visual timers and \"Take a Break\" rug help students understand how long they have to reset, which has made transitions smoother and more respectful of their emotional needs.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, their reactions were full of excitement and curiosity. They immediately noticed the colorful cushions, sensory tools, and calming visuals and asked thoughtful questions about how and when they could use them. The mindfulness breathing book has become a class favorite — students regularly request it during calm-down time, and many now model breathing strategies independently after practicing together as a class. Tools like the liquid motion bubblers, worry stones, and fidgets give students safe, quiet ways to regulate their emotions and stay engaged in learning.\r\n\r\nNext, students will continue using these resources as part of our ongoing social-emotional learning lessons and project-based activities. The glue sticks and art supplies are already being used for student projects connected to reading and reflection, allowing students to creatively express their thinking while practicing focus and fine motor skills. Thanks to your generosity, my classroom is now a more supportive, flexible, and mindful environment where students feel empowered to manage their emotions and take ownership of their learning. For most of the students, it was their first time using a rotary tool. Some were nervous, some were a little scared, but most of them were excited. Once they saw how easy and non-threatening it was, they were ready to jump in and practice. After getting started, they quickly became more comfortable using the tool, especially with the safety equipment that was also purchased through this project.\r\n\r\nThe students are using the tool to engrave a small piece of wood to show something that has a personal connection to them. It has been a bit of a process and we've hit some speed bumps, but we're persevering. It's been a learning process for all. As a teacher, this is the first time where I have to think about safety training to prepare the students to use the tool. It was imperative that they use the tool properly and also feel comfortable knowing how to use it. All of the hard work and speed bumps have been worth it just to see the students so excited to use the tool.\r\n\r\nNow that I have the tools and safety equipment, I am much more prepared for a future project with a different group of students. Since I have a better idea of what to do and how to structure lessons including the tool, I want to be able to utilize it more for other fun, creative projects. My students are actively using the small scales and art sketch paper across math, science, and art lessons. In math, students work in small groups to compare weights and practice measurement by placing classroom objects on the scales, helping them develop a stronger understanding of numbers and problem-solving. In science, the scales are used during hands-on investigations as students measure and compare materials such as rocks, soil, and classroom samples, allowing them to make observations, record data, and draw evidence-based conclusions. In art, the sketch paper supports detailed drawings and creative exploration, giving students the freedom to practice and refine their artistic skills.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were excited and curious. Many immediately wanted to test the scales and predict which objects would be heavier or lighter, while others were eager to begin sketching. Their enthusiasm showed how meaningful hands-on tools are in helping them connect learning to real-world experiences.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue using the scales in science experiments involving mass, matter, and properties of materials, while also applying these skills to math problem-solving. The sketch paper will be used for upcoming art projects and cross-curricular lessons that combine observation, creativity, and scientific thinking. One of my favorite moments was watching a small group of students practice reading with the whisper phones. Eyes wide, giggling as they realized they could hear their own voices clearly, and then proudly rereading sentences with confidence. These small tools have helped transform reading time into an empowering, joyful experience.\r\n\r\nWe are already putting these resources to use across the classroom. The organizational tools, such as bins and mailboxes, have helped students take ownership of their materials, stay organized, and transition between subjects more smoothly. Meanwhile, the hands-on manipulatives have become a staple in our math block. Students use them to build numbers, show their thinking, and work collaboratively during centers. These daily routines are not only supporting academic growth, but also building independence, problem-solving skills, and a more positive classroom culture.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, my students will continue to use these materials to support foundational literacy and math skills. We are beginning a new unit in math focused on composing and decomposing numbers, and the manipulatives will help students visualize numbers in new ways. In reading, students are working on fluency and phonics, and the whisper phones are becoming a favorite tool for practice. Because these novels were set in Hawai'i, students were able to see familiar places, traditions, and ways of speaking reflected in the stories. This connection helped them recognize pieces of their own lives within the characters' experiences, making the reading feel personal and relevant. Even though the books were longer and more challenging than some students were used to, they were motivated to persevere because the stories captured their interest—and because they enjoyed reading with their friends as part of a book club. They also got to cover their books with a brown paper bag (so we could keep the covers that came with the book nice for the next student), which was a new activity for them! :)\r\n\r\nYour support not only placed high-quality literature in my students' hands but also helped create a community of readers who encouraged one another, talked deeply about what they read, and grew in confidence as readers.
