The Algebra tiles can take those challenging to understand topics and make them more understandable. Being able to represent x-squared or -x visually makes a significant difference in how well they grasp the material. \r\n\r\nThe magnetic tiles allow students the chance to work collaboratively at the vertical whiteboards to make sense of these problems. Adolescents only have it if they have been inspired, many have come through my classroom over the years. However, it is so much easier to provide extrinsic motivators, especially for adolescents. \r\nIn my sixteen years of teaching I have learned that you MUST have some PBIS system. Positive behavior intervention system. Most schools have one, but I created one within my class. Some non-tangible rewards work, like extra bathroom passes and positive notes home but cand and fidgety items are silver bullets for some.\r\nI award them points and they spend them on Stuff. They look forward to Fridays even more for the Class Store than just the weekend. Some are even excite to come back and earn more points. Thank you for helping me keep this going.
