My students need to make connections to their learning in and out of the classroom. Many of us have air and water purifiers in our homes but don't have these same necessities in our classrooms. Students will be able to learn important scientific concepts, apply this knowledge to a laboratory experience and then evaluate our school environment. Students will analyze data in order to evaluate their own responsibilities as stewards of the Earth. After completion of the water and air labs, students will work in teams of environmental engineers to design and build their own outdoor air or water pollution detectors out of everyday items. Then my students will test their devices, evaluate their results, and present their findings to the class.
