Items such as balls, jump ropes, games, and outdoor activity equipment have encouraged students to stay active, work together, and build positive friendships during their break time.\r\n\r\nRecess has become more than just a break in the day — it has become an opportunity for students to practice teamwork, communication, and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way. Students who may have struggled socially are now finding ways to connect with classmates through organized games and shared activities. The supplies have also helped students return to the classroom more focused, refreshed, and ready to learn.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, especially in a Title I school setting, these recess materials provide experiences and opportunities they may not always have access to outside of school. They eagerly helped unpack supplies, organize materials, and find homes for everything in our classroom. Many students immediately commented on how \"clean,\" \"pretty,\" and \"easy\" the classroom felt afterward. For many of my students, having a structured and organized learning space helps them feel safe, confident, and prepared to succeed.\r\n\r\nWe are using these resources every single day during reading, writing, math, and small group instruction. The chair pockets and organizational tools have helped students become more independent and responsible for their own learning materials, while instructional supports allow transitions to happen more smoothly with fewer distractions. One of my favorite moments happened during small group reading instruction when students quickly gathered all of their supplies independently without confusion or lost materials. What used to take several minutes now happens in seconds, allowing us to maximize valuable instructional time and stay focused on learning.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, these resources will support our growing independence and academic goals. My students are currently working on strengthening their reading comprehension, phonics, and math problem-solving skills, and having an organized environment helps them stay engaged and ready to participate. Setting up a novel study type of small group has made daily instruction fun for the students -and for me, too. It has been like a breath of fresh air to sit together and enjoy a book over time, as opposed to shorter articles that do not provide a story with longer term continuity over weeks or months. \r\n\r\nThe students have visibly transformed as we've ventured deeper into our novels. At the start of our small group class, some students were checked out and had trouble engaging or staying positive because our time slot is the last 30 minutes of the day and they are at capacity in terms of attention, concentration and desire to 'perform' or 'do work'. It is a remedial reading class and students seemed to have resigned themselves to ever being 'real readers' because they are usually inundated with worksheets and endless short reading tasks plus multiple choice questions they they often lag behind on. When they learned that we would be having a book study, they perked up, albeit cautiously. \r\n\r\nNearly two months later, the same students who were resigned and would resort to staring out the window or rolling their eyes in class were excited to come to reading group. While other students waste time in the hallways during the transition time, my students now rush to get here as quickly as they can. They feel confident, happy, and have embraced sharing the journey through a deeper story all together. We have deep discussions and think beyond the text on a daily basis. I feel both lucky and proud that we have been able to give them this experience- one that was only possible with the books that you gave us. What's even more important is that I believe this experience will feed a deeper hunger to read books for years to come, one that represents a profound, unmet need that they didn't even realized they had. Indeed, we are all readers at heart, some of us just need the right books to awaken our innate love for literature.","fullyFundedDate":1770078766338,"projectUrl":"project/readers-in-the-wild/9829472/","projectTitle":"Readers in the WILD","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gambill","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9265993"},{"teacherId":8475388,"projectId":10126834,"letterContent":"Because of your support, we now have class sets of novels that have transformed our daily reading time into one of the most anticipated parts of the day.
