As a returning FIRST Robotics team with many new and enthusiastic members, we faced an exciting challenge how to equip a large group of motivated students with enough tools and materials to truly engage in hands-on engineering. With the resources provided through this project, our students now have the opportunity to learn, build, and innovate in ways that were not previously possible. The hand tools we received have made an immediate and lasting impact. Before this project, students often had to wait for access to basic tools like screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches. Now, with a more complete set of hand tools available, several students can work simultaneously on different parts of a robot or project. This has not only improved our efficiency but also fostered collaboration and problem-solving. Students have learned to take initiative, plan their work, and use the right tools for each job skills that are central to both engineering and teamwork. The tape measures have been an unexpectedly powerful addition to our classroom. Accurate measurement and layout are foundational to engineering, yet it's something that takes practice and precision. With more tape measures available, students no longer have to share one or two among an entire class. They can now measure, mark, and verify their work with confidence. This has improved the quality of our builds and taught students the importance of accuracy and attention to detail—lessons that extend far beyond robotics.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting components of this project has been the 3D printer filament. Our students use computer-aided design (CAD) to create and print prototypes, brackets, and custom parts for our robots. Being able to experiment and iterate on their designs through 3D printing brings engineering concepts to life in a tangible way. Many of our students had never used a 3D printer before joining this class, and watching their excitement as they hold a part they designed themselves has been one of the highlights of the year. The additional filament allows us to continue this cycle of creativity and learning without interruption. The addition of a miter saw has also been a game changer for our team. As part of the FIRST Robotics program, students not only build robots but also construct full-sized field elements out of wood to practice on. Before, we struggled to cut precise angles and straight edges with the tools we had. The new miter saw allows students to safely and accurately make the cuts needed for professional-quality field elements and wooden prototypes. It has greatly improved both the precision of our builds and the confidence of our students when working with power tools. Because we are a Title I school, many of our students have limited access to tools, technology, and hands-on learning experiences outside of school. This project has given them a space where they can explore engineering in a meaningful, real-world way. Every item donated has helped level the playing field for students who are eager to learn but may not have the means to pursue these opportunities otherwise.","fullyFundedDate":1755710385387,"projectUrl":"project/inspired-by-first/9563826/","projectTitle":"Inspired by FIRST","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Waring","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6775104_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691700484456","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6775104"},{"teacherId":10172874,"projectId":9583055,"letterContent":"Our students were beyond thrilled to receive the new snacks! Although the original project requested headphones, we ran into an availability issue. Thanks to the flexibility of DonorsChoose, we were able to pivot and get a massive 75-inch television for presentations, and because of an additional, very generous private donation, we also received a supply of headphones for student work!\r\n\r\nHow the Technology is Helping Students Learn\r\nMany of you use technology daily but may wonder how a large screen and individual headphones transform the learning experience in a classroom. Here's how this technology is helping our students:\r\n\r\nDeeper Engagement and Clarity: The 75-inch TV has revolutionized our whole-class instruction. Content is now displayed in such a large, vibrant, and clear way that every student, no matter where they sit, can easily see details in maps, diagrams, educational videos, and complex problems. This visual clarity means less distraction and more focus, helping students truly grasp concepts that were harder to teach on a smaller screen. It has made our classroom a more inclusive learning environment.\r\n\r\nPersonalized, Focused Work: The headphones allow students to work at their own pace and concentrate deeply on individual assignments, especially those using computers for learning apps, research, or interactive lessons. They can listen to audio instructions, participate in virtual activities, or even take standardized practice tests without external distractions. This helps us differentiate instruction effectively, meeting each student where they are.\r\n\r\nWhat's Most Exciting to the Students?\r\nWithout a doubt, the students are most excited about the \"movie theater experience\" the big TV provides! They love seeing educational clips and virtual field trips on such a huge scale. But beyond the novelty, they especially enjoy being able to present their own work on the large screen. It gives them a real sense of pride and professionalism when they share their projects with the class—it makes their work feel more important.\r\n\r\nStudents Who Have Warmed Up to the Tech\r\nWe've seen fantastic engagement across the board, but some students have especially blossomed with this new setup:\r\n\r\nOur more visual learners are thriving because the 75-inch screen provides such a rich and detailed display of information. One student who often struggled to follow along during group lessons is now noticeably more engaged, pointing out details in slides and contributing more to discussions.\r\n\r\nStudents who are easily distracted have significantly benefited from the headphones. For example, one student who is sensitive to noise and motion can now put on the headphones, focus completely on their online assignments, and complete their work with greater accuracy and less frustration. It has become a vital tool for her to manage her workspace and build independent work habits.","fullyFundedDate":1758500702671,"projectUrl":"project/esports-ready-headsets-for-academic-and/9703653/","projectTitle":"Esports-Ready: Headsets for Academic and Competitive Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Godinez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5580998_orig.jpg?crop=800,800,x0,y109&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1565865185137","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mr-godinez"},{"teacherId":6839841,"projectId":9470261,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support and generous giving for my classroom and my students.
