These topics are important in the study of engineering and they are not easy to learn and understand. They require quite a lot of math to master and students sometimes struggle with full understanding.\r\n\r\nMy hope is to make them more accessible and understandable by making them more interesting. To do so, I am using the materials from this donors choose project to create student-led labs and experiments where students can spend time exploring the various ideas of weight, fluid pressure, volume, temperature, and friction and through that exploration form a better understanding of those concepts.\r\n\r\nHaving already gone fully through two of my \"new\" experiments, I can tell you that the results have been amazing. I have set up exploration labs where I don't give away the answers and ask students to form their own conclusions. By having clear standard weights and syringes with different graduations on them they can easily gather data and understand how each of the engineering concepts is represented by the materials.\r\n\r\nThe assessment results have proven that they are learning. I can never take all the credit for teaching, because the students are doing all of the work, but these donations and my new project-based learning has helped. \r\n\r\nThank you for your part in that effort.","fullyFundedDate":1755702494432,"projectUrl":"project/forces-weight-and-fluid-dynamics/9456026/","projectTitle":"Forces, Weight, and Fluid Dynamics","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Stemple","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3382588_orig.jpg?crop=645,645,x0,y36&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1653583387441","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/rstemple"},{"teacherId":3382588,"projectId":9307791,"letterContent":"Thank you for supporting my African Library Project for this year. My first five Snack for Teens projects were such a success that I've been inspired to continue this effort and your contributions are what make that possible.\r\n\r\nAs a teacher, I see firsthand how hunger affects my students. When students come to school without having eaten, it impacts everything: their ability to focus, stay engaged, regulate their emotions, and succeed academically. A simple snack can change a child's day. It provides the energy they need to stay attentive in class and lets them know someone cares. For students who may not have consistent access to meals at home, this project fills a critical gap and creates a more equitable classroom environment where all students have a fair chance to thrive.\r\n\r\nThe snacks you helped provide have become a daily staple in my room. Whether it's granola bars, fruit cups, or shelf-stable lunch kits, these items disappear quickly and are deeply appreciated. I've had students stop by in the morning just to grab something before a test or check in after lunch to ask if there's anything available to take home. I have not yet fully implemented the project as part of the sophomore class due to scheduling. I expect to implement the new sensors and testing materials as part of my coding unit that will start probably around late March.\r\n\r\nHowever, I have been getting myself familiar with these sensors so that I can make engaging and useful lessons and I have been getting help from my students in this effort. \r\n\r\nFirst, I have rolled out these sensors to several senior projects. These students already have some coding experience so they have been able to incorporate some new coding structures and download some new enhanced features that will work with the sensors in the kits that you helped provide. At the same time, they are using these sensors to help build small submarines, advanced greenhouses, and classroom demonstration tools. These sensors and kits are bringing these projects to the next level.\r\n\r\nWhile I'm doing that, I have started an after-school engineering club that is open to any student, but that I am hoping to have involvement in from my sophomore class. The idea here is that we will build and test some new projects so that I can better understand not only what is interesting to the sophomore class, but also better understand how to use the sensors in the kit. So far, we have started building a smart house, a motion sensor, and an electric vehicle. My goal is to have several options for the coding unit in March.\r\n\r\nThank you for your donation to this project.
