Some of the ways we've made use of the dry erase board include \"shared writing,\" practicing pre-writing strokes, writing our names, and identifying and naming magnetic letters. They were eager to begin building various structures that morning and afternoon during their Center Time. These materials have encouraged them to use their imaginations to create detailed structures such as...castles with various rooms, a house for animals that need room to roam, houses that fly to other planets and even a pool house that contained a car and bike garage.\r\n\r\nThese materials are used everyday during the regular school day and during the afterschool program that occurs in my classroom. Students are motivated to build and share a detailed story about the structures they built. Some students will draw their structure on paper and then create it using as many magnetic building tiles as possible. Many times, there will be collaboration between students and they will create a very large structure that they are eager to showcase to everyone in class; even administrators that are visiting.
