Because of your generosity, my students have access to hands-on Science of Reading materials that are making literacy instruction more engaging, meaningful, and fun.\r\n\r\nThe first time I introduced the new materials, my students were so excited to explore them. They couldn't wait to touch, move, and interact with all of the different literacy games and manipulatives. To them, it felt like they were playing—but I knew they were building the foundational reading skills that will stay with them for years to come.\r\n\r\nThe Lakeshore Science of Reading bundles have become a regular part of our small-group instruction and literacy centers. My students use the activities to practice letter sounds, build words, read simple words, and strengthen their phonics skills through games that keep them engaged from beginning to end. I've seen students who were once hesitant to participate become more willing to take risks because the activities feel fun and achievable.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite additions has been the magnetic Elkonin boxes. They have completely transformed how my students practice hearing the sounds in words. Watching a child slowly stretch out a word, move a magnet into each box for every sound they hear, and then proudly blend those sounds back together is incredibly rewarding. Those little \"I got it!\" moments happen almost every day, and they remind me why hands-on learning is so powerful.","fullyFundedDate":1760368312930,"projectUrl":"project/little-readers-big-discoveries-explori/9822609/","projectTitle":"Little Readers, Big Discoveries: Exploring the Science of Reading!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Gonzalez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4434946_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1529958355367","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/teachergonzalez"},{"teacherId":4434946,"projectId":9467899,"letterContent":"From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for supporting our kindergarten classroom! Because of your generosity, my students have the tools they need to learn, explore, and grow every single day.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments was watching my students' faces light up when they saw all of the new supplies arrive. They were especially excited about the Play-Doh and couldn't wait to start using it! What they thought was just a fun activity quickly became a chance to build letters, strengthen their little hands, and practice the sounds we are learning in class. They don't even realize how much learning is happening because they're having so much fun.\r\n\r\nThe dry erase markers, erasers, and table dots have become part of our everyday routine. My students love practicing their letters, writing words, solving math problems, and showing their thinking right at their seats. Having enough supplies for every child means everyone gets to participate, and that has made such a difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe headphones have also been a huge help during our literacy centers. Students can stay focused while listening to stories or practicing important reading skills on their devices without being distracted by the busy classroom around them.\r\n\r\nThe binders and mesh pouches have helped me keep our small-group materials organized so I can spend more time teaching and less time searching for resources. Even simple items like pencils and cups have made our daily routines smoother, giving students the tools they need to be independent and successful.\r\n\r\nAs we continue learning together this year, these materials will support us through reading, writing, math, science, and so many hands-on learning experiences. Because of your generosity, my students were able to experience French and Spanish beyond the textbooks. \r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful experiences for my French students was exploring the role of art and painting in the French culture. After learning and discussing about famous French artists like Claude Monet and their impact in France daily live, they were inspired to create their own paintings in the style of Monet. Watching them paint and discuss their art work was truly special. Many of them express that this is their first time learning about art and painting from another country. Their finished paintings now decorate our classroom. \r\n\r\nIn Addition to paintings, my students explored famous monuments and museums. Using the items you kindly donated, they were able to create posters of a monument they chose or a famous art in Le Louvre. The pride they felt presenting their work to their peers shows how meaningful and important hands-on culturally rich learning can be.\r\n\r\nYour support also made an impact in my Spanish class. Students are engaging with stories that explore emotions, relationships, and perseverance, and then responding through guided conversations and journaling. One especially meaningful moment occurred during a class discussion after a read-aloud, when several students connected a character's feelings to their own experiences and respectfully listened to one another—something that had previously been challenging for this group.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, their excitement was immediate. They eagerly explored the books, asked thoughtful questions, and were especially drawn to the journals and SEL visuals that helped them name and understand their feelings. Many students expressed that the stories \"felt like them,\" which opened the door for deeper engagement and more honest conversations. It was clear that they felt seen and valued through these resources.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, students will continue using these materials as part of an ongoing literacy project that combines reading comprehension, written reflection, and collaborative discussion.
