They immediately noticed how easy the magnetic phonics boards were to take out and put away, and they loved having clear spaces to write, map sounds, and move magnetic tiles as we practiced blending and segmenting words. \r\n\r\nThe flexible seating options have also made a big difference during decodable reading time. Students naturally chose the lap desks and portable seating to get comfortable while practicing their decodable readers. They take great pride in using the highlighters to mark the word patterns we are studying, and choosing their own color has become a small but motivating part of our routine. These small moments have created more ownership and excitement during phonics practice.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to use the new materials to strengthen students' confidence with more complex word patterns and multisyllabic word routines. With these tools, students are able to move more smoothly through each part of the lesson—from articulating sounds with their mirrors to building words with tiles to reading their decodables with independence. These resources have already transformed our small-group instruction, and we're excited to continue building on this momentum.","fullyFundedDate":1760373670579,"projectUrl":"project/building-strong-readers-through-hands-on/9822871/","projectTitle":"Building Strong Readers Through Hands-On Phonics","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Labaze","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp2254313_orig.jpg?crop=2262,2263,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1568057080813","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-labaze"},{"teacherId":5706818,"projectId":9480272,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting my classroom and students! \r\n\r\nThe students were so excited to pick out a pair of headphones to use this year. We love how colorful and sturdy they are. Headphones are essential to making our school day go smoothly as they allow students to work independently while I teach others in small groups. Our students use differentiated online learning programs to practice at their own reading and math levels and without headphones the classroom quickly becomes chaotic during that time.\r\n\r\nThe chair bands have really helped certain students who need a little more movement to be able to focus in class. It is so nice to have new ones that I know won't break when the students try to use them. They use the fidgets and clip boards daily in my classroom to assist them with their work and their focus. They take their wiggle seats with them into the classroom to help them to stay engaged in the lessons and focused. All of the books have already been read at least once and returned just for another student to excitedly request to borrow it as soon as they see it. One of my students struggles with dyslexia in all of his classes and he uses the dyslexia book marks every day while reading content in his regular classes and enjoys feeling like he can read considerable better than he did before. He no longer asks me to read questions for him on tests because he can confidently read them himself! \r\n\r\nI feel like saying thank you for your support does not even begin to summarize how grateful myself and my students are for these materials, but thank you. One student said, \"I feel like a real writer now!\" as he picked up a freshly sharpened pencil and got to work.\r\n\r\nWe've already put these materials to good use during our independent work, small groups, and whole-group lessons. Students are using their dry erase markers during brainstorming and phonics practice, construction paper for creative math projects and story illustrations, and their own crayon boxes to take responsibility for their tools. The new water bottles have become part of our daily routine, helping students take healthy breaks and return to learning refreshed. These supplies are helping us reinforce not only academics but also life skills like respect, responsibility, and independence.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward in the school year, we'll continue using these tools to support our goals in reading, writing, math, and science.
