They take pride in reading challenging books that have influenced modern literature.\r\n\r\nI think one of my favorite moments after receiving these items was after putting up the new display, I kept walking past and seeing ones missing because they got checked out. These books have increased our collection in both sections by over 20% in the relevant categories. It has been gratifying to see our shelves filled with books that will appeal to a wide range of readers: from those who are learning English as another language to those native English speakers who struggle with their literacy skills.\r\nEven more gratifying has been the excitement students demonstrate when they see our growing collection. A few weeks ago, our ELD 1 students came in to check out books and they were so enthusiastic about the options they could now choose from for their independent reading. This collection has outgrown its original location, and we moved it to the bookshelf right in front of our circulation desk. Throughout the day we hear student comments on how exited they are to pick up a book in Spanish or Chinese.\r\nIt has also been gratifying to be able to more fully support our native English speakers who need quick, engaging books at their reading level. While we had some good options before, the additions we were able to make because of your generous donation are more modern, have more relevant covers and look more like what their classmates are reading. It really helps to provide choices that will fulfill their needs while allowing them to participate in classroom activities.","fullyFundedDate":1759978338657,"projectUrl":"project/literacy-for-all-in-the-high-school-libr/9717217/","projectTitle":"Literacy for All in the High School Library!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bailey","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8807920"},{"teacherId":5066108,"projectId":9428880,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your support! The blackout shades will soon be used when we watch a video because sunlight beams into our room so much that it's often hard to see the screen. A big help are the surface wipes and dusters. Thanks to your support, we now have hands-on materials—such as dry erase blocks and foam blocks—that are already making a significant difference in how my students engage with foreign languages.\r\n\r\nThese tools have opened up new, interactive ways for students to explore pronunciation, spelling rules, vocabulary, and grammar. The ability to physically build words and sentences fosters deeper understanding and retention, especially when learning a character-based language like Chinese. The square shape of the blocks even helps students better visualize and appreciate the structure of Chinese characters—something that's not easily achieved through traditional methods.\r\n\r\nSince implementing these materials, I've noticed a spark of curiosity and excitement in my students. They collaborate more, they take initiative, and they're more confident in experimenting with new vocabulary. Most exciting of all, this new approach is helping them expand their vocabulary at an incredible pace—up to 16 times faster than before. That kind of progress is transformative, and it wouldn't have been possible without your support.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in the power of education and for helping my students become life-long learners who not only understand a language, but truly enjoy the journey of learning it.","fullyFundedDate":1733240595376,"projectUrl":"project/vocabulary-building-blocks/8705566/","projectTitle":"Vocabulary Building Blocks","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Zhou","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-7_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9707832"},{"teacherId":6949914,"projectId":8706794,"letterContent":"The inclusion of \"How It Went Down\" by Kekla Magoon and \"Interpreter of Maladies\" by Jhumpa Lahiri in the curriculum this year offered students an invaluable opportunity to engage with diverse perspectives on life in the United States.
