I personally have started to plan in my planning book. Mapping out the themes and concepts I will need the students to master next year. As I think of projects in all subjects, I am writing them down in the monthly guide.\r\n\r\nStudents in my summer school class were able to make additions to their writing with post its and black editing pens. They were also able to outline with black pens to make their paintings stand out.\r\n\r\nHaving luxurious expensive items in you class to boost quality of work is spectacular! Each time I use a pen, crayon beyond the basic 8 colors, or colored post it, I am reminded how Donor's Choose helps teachers and students. I have been making copies from the books so students can review important foundational skills that many missed in previous grades, like proper nouns, conjunctions, capitalization, and sentence structure. One moment that stood out was hearing students start correcting sentences out loud during class discussions because they were recognizing the grammar skills we had practiced together.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new materials, they were excited and curious to look through the pages. Many students immediately wanted to try the activities and were excited to work on skills that made them feel more successful during writing.\r\n\r\nRight now, we are continuing to use the materials to strengthen grammar and vocabulary during reading and writing lessons. Our next steps are helping students apply these skills more independently in their everyday writing and class discussions. Having these lovely, \"beyond budget\" items in our classroom has been exciting. Yesterday we researched simple pinch pots to make. We needed our clay, formed a pot, and repaired the cracks. The students giggled, helped each other, and shared dreams of what they would make next. Everyone went home with a smile.\r\n\r\nCreating should be a subject in school. It leads to smiles and hope.
