Because of your donation, my first graders now have a document camera and noise-cancelling headphones that have truly transformed how they learn in our classroom.\r\n\r\nThe document camera has been a game-changer for science instruction in particular. Recently, we used it to explore how the sun lights up the sky during the day and why the sky turns dark when it disappears — and being able to project real images and diagrams large enough for every student to see made all the difference. Instead of straining to see a small picture in a shared book, my students could closely observe details together, ask questions in real time, and point directly at what they noticed, which sparked wonderful scientific curiosity and discussion. Several students who are usually quieter during group instruction have become much more engaged, raising their hands to share observations they never would have noticed from across the room. Meanwhile, the noise-cancelling headphones have helped my students who struggle to filter out distractions finally be able to concentrate during independent work time, allowing them to complete tasks with far more confidence and focus.\r\n\r\nYour support reflects exactly what Intel Foundation hopes to inspire — genuine curiosity about how the world works. We pruned back the trees and the flower bushes with the new pruning shears. They learned how to open and close the shears and clean them with alcohol to keep from spreading disease. \r\n\r\nNext we organized the seed packs by season and started to plan. The fall vegetable garden was planted in two weeks. When the beets and artichokes started to break through the soil, the smiles were very big! The harvest will be something to really look forward to in December. \r\n\r\nFor spring we have a tomato production plan that is very exciting. We will grow many different types of tomatoes from grape to big boys. The students are bringing in clear 2 liter soda bottles to protect the tomatoes through the early spring rains and cold. \r\n\r\nWe will document this cloche tomato garden in our spring science fair. The students reasearched plants that provide pest repellant while providing an added attraction of polinators. Who thought you could enjoy, learn, and feel proud of a school garden.
