A big part of putting on great theater productions is creating beautiful costumes, set pieces, props, and more. \r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity I have been able to teach our costumers how to sew their own costumes for our shows! Not only does this lead to stunning results on the stage but learning how to sew is a skill that they can carry with them the rest of their lives.\r\n\r\nThank you for your generosity and support of GALA Performing Arts!","fullyFundedDate":1715092882653,"projectUrl":"project/sew-sew-good/8303564/","projectTitle":"Sew, Sew Good!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Leppard","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8029460_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y316&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1630267503215","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-leppard-music"},{"teacherId":8029460,"projectId":8556062,"letterContent":"Thank you for your support of the Performing Arts Department at Girls Academic Leadership Academy (GALA) in Los Angeles. Students were genuinely surprised by how accurately the novel connected to modern life, especially things like targeted advertising, social media culture, algorithms, and the pressure to constantly stay connected online. The book led to some of the most thoughtful conversations we had all year because students could clearly see parallels between the novel and their own experiences.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looked very active and discussion-based. Students annotated, tracked themes and patterns, and connected the novel to current technology and media. We used the text to practice important media literacy skills like analyzing how companies influence consumers, questioning how media shapes identity, and thinking critically about life online.\r\n\r\nOne of the best parts of teaching this novel was seeing students who don't usually enjoy reading become invested in the story. Many came into class eager to talk about moments that reminded them of TikTok, influencers, or algorithm-driven content they encounter every day. \r\n\r\nThank you so so much for helping make those conversations and experiences possible for my students.","fullyFundedDate":1723695360795,"projectUrl":"project/feed-their-minds-a-journey-through-the/8652032/","projectTitle":"Feed Their Minds: A Journey Through the Digital Age","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Adrianne","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5968065_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1539196942242","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/ms-adrianne"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_109242","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":732,"numTeachers":null,"percentFrplEligible":76,"percentAsian":4,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":8,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":67,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":null,"demographicsDataSource":"MDR District Record","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.9,"schoolId":109242,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Girls Academic Ldrshp Academy on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Girls Academic Ldrshp Academy","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/los-angeles-unified-school-district/girls-academic-leadership-academy-opens-fall-2016-/109242"}
