My students love the air-dry clay and we are able to make adobe style homes as we learn about early civilizations. These hand on activities help the students to remain motivated to work hard. I look forward to teaching about Ancient Chinese Civilizations in the spring so we can make Terracotta warriors with the clay and paint them with the paints that you provided. We can do frescos, watercolors, use colorful paper to create maps, replicas of artifacts and inventions.\r\n\r\nSome personal items help my students to trust me when they need bandages or extra care, I can provide a Batman bandage, Always, stickers, or something special. The monthly supplies really help in middle school as well. The pillows allow for a rest during a short film about history or flexible seating for independent work time. The erasers, pencils, lanyards, snacks, and post-its provide a personal touch to birthdays, perfect attendance, work well done, Honor Roll, and other celebrations. These at risk, disadvantaged, and disabled students are now recognized for their personal achievements and not compared to their peers. The snacks are always a huge hit, as our students are often hungry.\r\n\r\nI personally am blessed to have so many wonderful supplies to make my room warm and hospitable. Many of these supplies should last this year and into the future. I have beautiful flags, LED lights, light covers with the seasonal leaves, etc. The students love the globe to throw around and discuss hemispheres and continents. I love the Sharpies, glue sticks, colored pencils, and dry erase pockets for gallery walks, map making, and journals. My school supplies were delayed so the Donors Choose provided the necessary supplies and encouragement to be creative and learn. When items weren't available, it allowed me to reorder other supplies. Now my class has a set of computer mouses for creating slide shows, play learning games, and helping with those that struggle with the mouse pad. It is awesome to see their smiling faces.
