Students love picking them up to study their wings and tiny bodies. Science keeps happening, even with butterflies that are no longer alive.\r\n\r\nThe magnets have also been a huge hit. We've been tackling each little magnetism challenge from the kit, and the kids are completely captivated. What is that invisible force holding a magnet in midair? Why won't the same poles stick together? This small kit makes the magic feel real.\r\n\r\nThe micro:bit car has been another source of wonder. We're still tinkering, exploring, and discovering everything it can do. There's so much authentic learning happening, and it all grows naturally from their curiosity. Your gracious gift of high-interest, low-vocabulary books has made a world of difference in their lives, and some are beginning to really enjoy reading. The fifth grade boys who read Tornado, wanted to keep reading so they could find out what happened to the dog in the book. You know that when fifth grade boys who don't like to read, complain when they have to stop reading to go to their next class, that you have made a difference. That is just what you did with your incredible gift of books. \r\n\r\nNot only are the fifth grade boys having fun reading, but my other students are also loving the book Third Grade Angels! One of our favorite activities has been our new \"Calm Corner\" project. We created a dedicated space in the classroom where students can go when they need a sensory break or a few minutes to reset. The bean bag, floor pillows, and sensory toys like the magnetic tiles and stacking rocks help students regulate their emotions and return to learning with better focus and calmness.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was priceless! The moment they walked in and saw the new bean bag and colorful pillows, their eyes lit up. They immediately started exploring the sensory toys—many of them were drawn to the magnetic tiles and stacking rocks, creating towers, patterns, and imaginative structures. One student even said, \"This is the coolest day ever!\"\r\n\r\nRight now, we're incorporating the sensory materials into our social-emotional learning unit. Students are learning about feelings, self-regulation, and mindfulness. As part of this, they'll be using the sensory tools during reflection activities and journaling. We're also planning a \"design your own calm space\" mini-project where students get to suggest how we might improve our Calm Corner and describe how the tools help them. It's all about giving them voice, choice, and strategies for success.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generosity, our classroom feels more inclusive, calm, and supportive.
