They couldn't wait to put them on and see how they could move inside them. The materials helped turn a familiar music lesson into something new and engaging. Students who may sometimes be hesitant to participate in movement were eager to join in and explore.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building movement vocabulary and connecting movement to musical concepts. Students will create and perform short movement patterns using different levels, shapes, and pathways while responding to steady beat, rhythm, tempo, and dynamics. We will also use the body socks for student-created movement activities, giving students opportunities to make creative choices, collaborate, and express music through their bodies. We have been using the drum during our music lessons to practice steady beat, rhythm patterns, dynamics, and ensemble playing. Students are learning to listen carefully to one another and work together to create music as a group.\r\n\r\nThe tobano has quickly become a favorite part of our classroom! Students have enjoyed taking turns playing rhythms, responding to musical patterns, and adding the drum to our classroom songs and movement activities. It has been wonderful to see their excitement grow as they realize that their own ideas can become part of the music.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue building our percussion skills by creating and performing our own rhythmic patterns. Students will have opportunities to lead the class, echo rhythms, and perform together as an ensemble. Drumming is one of easy additions that from kindergarten through 5th grade it becomes an easy access to develop a steady beat or rhythmic integrity depending on their skill level. By adding a drum each year through donors choose we are allowing for every student in the class to become part of this team. \r\n\r\nMy favorite part of receiving this instruments is watching the kids faces when we open the package. I often have students say it feels like Christmas and the best birthday ever! \r\n\r\nThis year our 4th grade class produces a show on elementary instruments ranging from xylophone, drumming, to even recorders and ukuleles. We are focused on the theme of \"Nighttime Symphony\" where we explore and create the sounds of the city as a little boy goes to sleep. We have sourced parts created through the Orff Schulwerk approach to increase their rhythmic knowledge and performance level. I am very thankful to add our latest addition to our classroom.
