In African Drumming we use drums that are designed to fit the body of our elementary students. We use mainly the tobano as our bass drum and our djembe as the higher drum in the ensemble. We are looking to start purchasing the big tobanos for our first set of drums. The drumming activities will help to not only teach basic music concepts but also introduce collaboration and teamwork to produce a whole work. In this school my students have zero drums as to use for these drumming activities and have never encountered the drumming circle. I believe that not every student is meant to be a singer and that by providing an instrument we create another avenue for students to succeed and prepare for the middle school adventures of music.
