Your generosity has helped make our chemistry classroom more organized, interactive, and accessible for all students.\r\n\r\nMy students are using these supplies every day in their interactive science notebooks. Instead of only reading notes or copying information, students are able to cut, glue, sketch, annotate, and build models directly into their notebooks. These notebooks become a resource they can return to throughout the year as they learn new chemistry concepts, complete labs, and prepare for assessments.\r\n\r\nOne specific way students have used these materials is by adding visual notes and models into their notebooks to help explain complex ideas in chemistry. The copy paper allows me to provide graphic organizers and scaffolded templates, the glue sticks help students organize everything into one place, and the pencils make sure every student can participate right away. This has been especially helpful for my inclusion students and emergent bilingual students because the visuals and hands-on organization make the science more accessible.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, students are now able to stay engaged and build a stronger connection to the content through hands-on notebooking. My next step is to transition into more student-created sketch notes, where students will use drawings, symbols, labels, and key vocabulary to show their understanding of chemistry in their own way.\r\nThank you again for helping provide the simple supplies that make a big difference in how my students learn.","fullyFundedDate":1764600612171,"projectUrl":"project/hands-on-chemistry-starts-with-simple-su/9921201/","projectTitle":"Hands-On Chemistry Starts With Simple Supplies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tirado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9061419_orig.jpg?crop=2116,2116,x437,y279&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685227096593","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mstirado"},{"teacherId":9061419,"projectId":8211590,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting this project! They analyzed evidence, tested artifacts, examined fingerprints, used chromatography to compare ink samples, and applied chemistry concepts to make claims based on real data. Instead of only learning about forensic chemistry through notes or videos, students were able to step into the role of forensic scientists and experience how chemistry can be used to investigate questions of justice and health.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, they were incredibly excited. Many were amazed that they would get to use actual lab supplies and investigation materials to solve a case. The crime scene materials, lab tools, and evidence-testing supplies made the experience feel real and important. Students were engaged because they understood that their observations, data, and reasoning mattered.\r\n\r\nThis project has had a lasting impact on our classroom. Your generosity has helped bring light, color, and real scientific tools into our chemistry classroom. My students used these materials during our astrochemistry unit to explore how scientists can identify elements using light. During our flame test lab, students observed the bright colors produced by different elements and then used spectroscopes to look more closely at the spectral lines created by those elements. This helped them understand that each element has a unique \"fingerprint\" of light, which is the same idea scientists use to study stars, planets, and distant objects in space.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the spectroscopes, prisms, and infrared tools, they were genuinely excited. Many were amazed that they could look through a spectroscope and see lines of color that connected directly to real chemistry and astronomy. One of the best moments was watching students compare the colors they saw in the flame test to the spectral lines they observed, then realizing that light can be used as evidence to identify unknown substances.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, students were able to engage with chemistry in a hands-on, visual, and meaningful way. These resources helped make abstract concepts like energy levels, electron excitation, and emission spectra feel more real and accessible.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, I plan to continue building this into a stronger astrochemistry project-based learning unit focused on space exploration. I want students to investigate how chemistry helps us answer big questions about planets, stars, and the possibility of life beyond Earth. I also hope to bring in guest speakers, such as scientists, engineers, or astronauts, so students can see how the chemistry they are learning connects to real careers and real exploration.\r\n\r\nThank you again for helping my students experience chemistry as something exciting, beautiful, and connected to the universe around them.","fullyFundedDate":1728000876035,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-chemistry-with-infrared-prism/8787411/","projectTitle":"Exploring Chemistry with Infrared, Prisms, and Spectroscopes!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tirado","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9061419_orig.jpg?crop=2116,2116,x437,y279&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1685227096593","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mstirado"},{"teacherId":9061419,"projectId":9984146,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, \"Cracking the Case With Blood Typing!\" Your donation helped bring forensic science to life for our students in a way that was hands-on, memorable, and exciting.\r\n\r\nWe used the blood typing materials during our school's Science Night, where students led an interactive forensic science station for families, students, and community members. From the moment the supplies arrived, students were excited. There was an immediate buzz as they explored the highlighters, sorted materials, and began imagining what they could build. What may seem like simple supplies have made a powerful difference in how students experience learning every day.\r\n\r\nWe are already putting these materials to use in meaningful ways. Students are using highlighters and sticky notes to annotate scientific articles, helping them break down complex biology concepts and engage more deeply with the content. With index cards and colored paper, they are creating visual models and study tools that support their understanding of topics like cellular processes and ecosystems. The hot glue gun and laminating sheets have been especially impactful for our project based learning. Students are building hands on models and durable resources that they can revisit throughout the year. These tools have allowed them to bring their ideas to life in ways that simply were not possible before.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, students will continue using these supplies to deepen their understanding through collaborative projects, inquiry based labs, and student designed investigations. They are currently working on projects that require them to model biological systems and communicate their thinking visually and physically, and these materials are essential to that process.
