The students I deal with on a daily basis are struggling both academically and behaviorally. Many of these students have experienced loss, disappointment and stress in their home life. Although these students cause a lot of disturbance in the classroom and on school grounds, on a one on one basis they exhibit a desire to change and be successful. They have difficulty connecting the high school diploma to an option filled future. My school has a huge truancy problem, with students wandering around the campus instead of going to class. Many students are so far behind they feel it pointless to start trying to do things differently. The school, administrators, teachers, staff all work very hard to try to maintain a positive attitude and to acknowledge performance and progress among all our students.
