In 8th grade math, students learn to write and solve mathematical expressions and equations. Students often learn deeper math content when they are encouraged to create their own examples of problems. With this project, my students will be able to apply their understanding of this concept and create their own expressions and equations that are equivalent to the numbers on the clock. With the decorative wall clocks I am requesting for this project, students will be able to make a unique clock of their own with the expressions/equations they creatively came up with. Working with an actual clock will definitely get my students excited about applying what they learned to something they use everyday. They could even hang up their own unique clocks in their rooms at home. Group collaboration will encourage students to further construct their understanding of how different expressions are simplified and explore multiple ways of writing the same expression.
