The calculators allow my students access to a rigorous Chemistry curriculum that includes a great deal of math.\r\n\r\nAt the start of the year I had only a few calculators to share in classes that have as many as 32 students. Having a calculator for each student means that all of them can learn the needed skills at the same time. This efficiency enables me to cover subjects in greater detail, and to expose the students to more opportunities to use higher order thinking skills. \r\n\r\nThe other benefit to having a specific calculator assigned to each student in a class is that it provides accountability. I no longer see calculators that have been vandalized. It is incredibly demoralizing to witness destruction. It is a great relief to see the equipment treated responsibly, which makes it much easier to be fully engaged with the students.","fullyFundedDate":1757648451684,"projectUrl":"project/engaging-in-a-rigorous-chemistry-curricu/9689774/","projectTitle":"Engaging in a Rigorous Chemistry Curriculum","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. White","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10244525"},{"teacherId":7062023,"projectId":9303017,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for donating to this project and helping us to make sure that we have a copy of every book for every reader in the room. With the acquisition of resources such as the *Spanish-English Dictionary*, *Thesaurus*, and *Spanish Visual Dictionary*, students now have tools that support bilingual learning in a tangible way. The donations have helped remove barriers to understanding for emerging bilingual students and have promoted equity in learning by ensuring they have the same access to language development tools as their peers.\r\n\r\nMore importantly, these dictionaries empower students to engage in the process of discovery. Instead of relying on automatic online translators, students now practice critical inquiry skills—searching for words, understanding context, and making connections in both English and Spanish. This hands-on approach enhances their reading comprehension and strengthens their writing by expanding their vocabulary naturally and intentionally. The presence of visual dictionaries also supports visual learners and builds confidence among students as they develop language fluency.
