As a returning FIRST Robotics team with many new and enthusiastic members, we faced an exciting challenge how to equip a large group of motivated students with enough tools and materials to truly engage in hands-on engineering. With the resources provided through this project, our students now have the opportunity to learn, build, and innovate in ways that were not previously possible. The hand tools we received have made an immediate and lasting impact. Before this project, students often had to wait for access to basic tools like screwdrivers, pliers, and wrenches. Now, with a more complete set of hand tools available, several students can work simultaneously on different parts of a robot or project. This has not only improved our efficiency but also fostered collaboration and problem-solving. Students have learned to take initiative, plan their work, and use the right tools for each job skills that are central to both engineering and teamwork. The tape measures have been an unexpectedly powerful addition to our classroom. Accurate measurement and layout are foundational to engineering, yet it's something that takes practice and precision. With more tape measures available, students no longer have to share one or two among an entire class. They can now measure, mark, and verify their work with confidence. This has improved the quality of our builds and taught students the importance of accuracy and attention to detail—lessons that extend far beyond robotics.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting components of this project has been the 3D printer filament. Our students use computer-aided design (CAD) to create and print prototypes, brackets, and custom parts for our robots. Being able to experiment and iterate on their designs through 3D printing brings engineering concepts to life in a tangible way. Many of our students had never used a 3D printer before joining this class, and watching their excitement as they hold a part they designed themselves has been one of the highlights of the year. The additional filament allows us to continue this cycle of creativity and learning without interruption. The addition of a miter saw has also been a game changer for our team. As part of the FIRST Robotics program, students not only build robots but also construct full-sized field elements out of wood to practice on. Before, we struggled to cut precise angles and straight edges with the tools we had. The new miter saw allows students to safely and accurately make the cuts needed for professional-quality field elements and wooden prototypes. It has greatly improved both the precision of our builds and the confidence of our students when working with power tools. Because we are a Title I school, many of our students have limited access to tools, technology, and hands-on learning experiences outside of school. This project has given them a space where they can explore engineering in a meaningful, real-world way. Every item donated has helped level the playing field for students who are eager to learn but may not have the means to pursue these opportunities otherwise.","fullyFundedDate":1755710385387,"projectUrl":"project/inspired-by-first/9563826/","projectTitle":"Inspired by FIRST","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Waring","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp6775104_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1691700484456","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/6775104"},{"teacherId":10172874,"projectId":9583055,"letterContent":"Our students were beyond thrilled to receive the new snacks!
