I have been using these amazing prizes and snacks to motivate students to complete high quality work. I set the competition goals very clearly on the board and then they are off the races!!! So many high scores on Reading Plus and Achieve3000 were completed by my students thanks to these tangible rewards from Donors Choose. Especially as we are at the end of the year, students need external motivation more than ever and it has been AMAZING to run lots of incentivized competitions. Today was \"cup o' noodle challenge\" day and this inspired my students to complete more lessons and with higher scores. Popular local snacks are the real motivator as middle school kids are growing and always hungry!\r\n\r\nThis week I will pack up the finished puzzle and all the students have already said they want me to glue it forever. That is how much joy it brought them! And of course there isn't a day where a student doesn't ask for one of our \"new fidgets\". They are a huge help for students to stay occupied at their desks to focus on their work. The new board and card games and wonderful new chess pieces have been such a hit! The students are always eager to complete their work so they can jump into their favorite free-time games, which is so important in encouraging task completion and balancing daily Chromebook fatigue.","fullyFundedDate":1771701052659,"projectUrl":"project/reading-workshop-goodies-for-increased-m/10107599/","projectTitle":"Reading Workshop Goodies for Increased Motivation and Engagement","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Ali","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10115106_orig.png?crop=1142,1142,x0,y102&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1759289632160","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10115106"},{"teacherId":4820453,"projectId":10107332,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your incredible generosity! Through hands-on learning, students have discovered not only how to sew, mend, and embroider, but also how these skills connect to their everyday lives.\r\n\r\nOne of the most exciting outcomes of the project is how students now \"see\" sewing opportunities everywhere around them. After participating in class, students regularly notice backpack rips, holes in uniforms, torn jacket seams, and loose buttons that they previously overlooked. Instead of throwing damaged items away, they now understand that many things can be repaired, reused, and given new life through sewing.\r\n\r\nStudents genuinely love sewing. They are excited to learn new stitches, create designs, and proudly show off their completed projects. The joy they experience when repairing an item or finishing an embroidery piece has increased their confidence and encouraged patience, focus, and problem-solving skills. Many students have also shared their new skills with family members at home, extending the impact of the project into the community.\r\n\r\nBeyond creative expression, the Sew Bright project teaches valuable life skills, sustainability, and self-sufficiency. Students are learning that sewing is both practical and empowering. During our gratitude and reflection activities, I've noticed students becoming more thoughtful, open, and willing to share pieces of their lives. Some of my quieter students, in particular, have found confidence through creative expression, using art to communicate feelings they might not otherwise voice.\r\n\r\nThe games have brought an immediate sense of joy and connection into our classroom. Students who might not typically interact are laughing together, working as a team, and building trust naturally and engagingly. These moments are helping to create a stronger sense of community, where students feel more comfortable participating and supporting one another.\r\n\r\nThe environmental additions—soft lighting, plants, and snacks—have already begun to shift the overall tone of our classroom. Students frequently comment on how the room feels calmer and more welcoming. I've seen students settle more quickly, stay more focused, and show greater care for the space and each other.\r\n\r\nBecause the materials arrived later in the school year, not all items have been fully implemented yet. However, the early impact is clear, and I am excited to continue integrating these resources more deeply into our routines next year.
