Last year I watched students get bullied over their hygiene. I watched students' self esteem deflate over not having access to hygiene essentials. Since the introduction of my hygiene packets I have been able to provide students with care packages to keep in their PE lockers, as there is nothing worse than having PE first thing in the morning, then smelling like PE for the rest of the day. Students with orthodontal work appreciate the toothbrush/paste/comb combo. They no longer have to sit with the day's lunch lodged in their braces all afternoon. \r\n\r\nAs the winter cold rolls in, the lip balm and lotion are becoming a more and more popular request. Preteens and young teens really do care about their hygiene and it shows in their smiles. When they know they can come to my classroom, both privately or accompanied by their peers, and get items like deodorant, feminine hygiene products, lotion, wipes, lip balm, and dental care, they are less self-conscious and able to focus on their academic success more. Being able to carry all of these products conveniently in their binder is an added bonus. \r\n\r\nThe entire purpose of this project was to provide students with basic essential in an effort to increase their self esteem. My students and I cannot thank you enough.
