When children are hungry, it is hard for them to focus, feel calm, or enjoy learning. Having snacks available has helped my students feel safe, cared for, and ready to learn each day.\r\n\r\nSome of my students walk to school by themselves without a parent. On certain mornings, they arrive late, tired, and hungry. Because of this project, I am able to welcome them into the classroom and offer them a snack right away. You can see the relief on their faces as they eat. Afterward, they are able to sit down, smile, and join the class feeling comfortable until lunchtime.\r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw the snacks, their eyes lit up with excitement. Many said \"thank you\" with big smiles. A few shared that they did not have breakfast that morning. What may seem like a small snack has become something much bigger, a reminder to my students that their classroom is a place where they are cared for.\r\n\r\nWe use the snacks throughout the day, especially in the mornings, after recess, or during long learning times. This project has helped create a warm, supportive classroom environment where students feel seen and valued. Because of your generosity, my students are better able to focus, participate, and enjoy learning. Thank you for helping make our classroom a place where little learners feel nourished, supported, and ready to succeed.","fullyFundedDate":1762097720185,"projectUrl":"project/fighting-food-insecurity/9463649/","projectTitle":"Fighting Food Insecurity","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Williams","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8172961_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1752541706320","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8172961"},{"teacherId":7520495,"projectId":9508829,"letterContent":"The carpet and the bookcases have helped students have an area in the room where they can comfortably sit and read or they can work on learning games. Similarly, the math manipulatives have been a great resource in helping them understand math concepts and practice their addition and subtraction skills. \r\n\r\nHaving a bulk amount of pencils and erasers has helped tremendously with schoolwork. They are no longer asking friends for supplies, interrupting class time with loud pencil sharpening, or crossing out and ripping paper due to lack of erasers. They have a rotating ready-to-go supply of pre-sharpened pencils and erasers to place at their ends. \r\n\r\nLastly, the headphones and the sweeper have them accountability and responsibility. They maintain the care of the headphones that they were assigned at the beginning of the school year and they take great pride in that. Likewise, the sweeper has allowed them to clean up personal messes quickly and without distraction.","fullyFundedDate":1754085967144,"projectUrl":"project/learning-nooks-for-growing-minds/9508829/","projectTitle":"Learning Nooks for Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Chavez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7520495_orig.jpg?crop=543,543,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1599774370941","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7520495"},{"teacherId":9076487,"projectId":9254301,"letterContent":"The magnetic manipulatives have helped my classrooms to be more organized and to have everything at my finger tips but also allows for things to have the place. It was so fun to see the excitement of my students for our new learning games. I let them help me open the boxes to see all of our learning tools to help us grow our brains. \r\n\r\nWe use the learning games every day. When students finish an assignment early and have the choice of free choice, they are always choosing the learning games. Being able to give them opportunities to do activities hands on, and see their growth in learning has been so rewarding as a teacher. \r\n\r\nI have started working an after school program with students from my school, and I have been able to not only share the learning games with my students, but now also for other students at my school. Their excitement and enjoyment of the learning games has been the same as my students. With the addition of books such as Brown Boy Joy, Be Bold Be Brave, They Called Us Enemy, and Feyi Fay and the Case of the Mysterious Madam Koi Koi, my students now engage with texts that affirm their identities, celebrate their cultures, and broaden their perspectives.\r\n\r\nThese books have sparked powerful classroom discussions, fostered pride in heritage, and encouraged empathy and resilience. I've witnessed students—especially those who have struggled to connect with reading—light up with excitement and curiosity as they see protagonists who look and sound like them overcoming obstacles and making a difference in the world. \r\n\r\nThe accompanying hygiene materials, like the hand soap, have also helped ensure a clean, safe, and respectful learning environment—an essential foundation for both academic and emotional growth.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, your support sends a clear message to my students: You matter.
