For low-income families, donations help ensure that students come to school with the materials they need to be successful, such as school supplies, learning tools, and basic resources. By providing these resources, donations help level the playing field so all students can fully engage in classroom learning. For SEBS children, the classroom benefits are especially significant. Many of these students experience challenges with focus, emotional regulation, sensory processing, and behavior. Donations that fund classroom items such as fidgets, sensory tools, flexible seating, calming corner materials, visual supports, and hands-on learning tools play a critical role in helping students self-regulate and stay engaged.\r\nFidgets and sensory tools, in particular, allow students to release excess energy, manage anxiety, and improve concentration without disrupting instruction. When used appropriately, these tools help students remain seated longer, follow directions more effectively, and participate positively in lessons. Other donated items such as noise-canceling headphones, stress balls, weighted lap pads, and visual timers also support students in staying calm, organized, and focused. These resources create a more inclusive classroom environment where SEBS students feel supported rather than singled out. As a result, behavioral incidents decrease, on-task behavior increases, and students build greater confidence and independence. By investing in these tools, the community is investing in student success.","fullyFundedDate":1692373464500,"projectUrl":"project/i-am-more-than-my-mood/7611839/","projectTitle":"I Am More Than My Mood!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Lopez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7638928_orig.jpg?crop=1244,1244,x0,y111&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1689604807377","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7638928"},{"teacherId":10062987,"projectId":9430905,"letterContent":"Thank you all so much for helping my students engage in learning much easier than before. Your generosity has allowed my students to spend more time on-task than off, with the use of the new headphones. Now my students can get to work immediately on their computers, rather than waste much-needed learning time trying to find working headphones. It's wonderful to see them plug in their headphones and get right to work, able to focus on the content of their assignments, rather than get distracted by noise around them. It is such a relief! \r\n\r\nMy students are also loving using the floor seats as they do different types of work. They use the seats for independent work as well as peer-to-peer work. Many of the students that previously found sitting on the rug uncomfortable, now use these seats without complaints. This again allows them to focus on the learning rather than being off-task by constantly readjusting themselves. I have found that I don't need to redirect them as much when they are using these seats.\r\n\r\nOnce again, your generosity has helped many children with being able to learn without needless obstacles. Instead of just reading about data and graphs, they now design small experiments, gather real-time data with sensors, and discuss what it means for comfort, safety, and noise in different parts of the school. Building a small smart house model with Arduino and the sensors has been especially exciting; students light up when they see that a change in temperature or sound can trigger a response they programmed themselves. Some students who were quiet or hesitant in traditional lessons have really come alive with this hands-on coding work, taking the lead in debugging programs and helping classmates understand how to read the data.\r\n\r\nBecause of your generosity, my students now see technology as something they can create and control, not just something they use.
