Instead of simply acknowledging the need, we can open the cabinet and help.\r\nOur students have quickly learned that this cabinet represents something much bigger than storage—it means there is food available when they need it and adults at school who care about their basic needs. Moving forward, we will continue keeping the cabinet organized and stocked so that no student has to sit in class trying to learn while worrying about hunger. At the beginning of the school year, my students had to share the playground equipment with other grade levels. There were multiple times when my students did not have a chance to use the playground equipment due to the upper grades dominating the equipment. There were a few times my students felt that recess was boring because they were unable to play with the basketball or the soccer ball. They would rather stay inside and play a game on their iPads. It became frustrating.\r\nThis quickly change once our classroom received the box full of jump ropes, soccer balls, a kickball, and a volleyball. My students were so excited! They were ready to play with all of the new equipment. But not only were my students excited, every second grade student was excited and ready to participate in soccer games, jumping rope, and even forming teams to play kickball! This is one project that has truly influenced not only my students but the entire second grade body to enjoy recess again! Then I was able to supply the gym with 40 disposable ice packs to which our gym teacher is used for different things from the field playing outside and getting hurt or even falls in the gym, all with the help of your funding. My students are able to feel secure and safe and validated when they have a boo-boo because we have the tools to help them. \r\n\r\nMy students absolutely love the different varieties of ice packs that you have provided them. They are able to use the fun ones when maybe they need a little pick me up after a fall. They're able to use the it's OK I'm fine Band-Aid ice packs when they need to be reminded that it is OK and we can move forward.
