The majority of our students come from low income homes, where both parents work to make ends meet. Additionally, our area is still recovering and rebuilding from the devastation of Hurricane Florence of 2018. Twenty-one of the thirty-four students being served, were not proficient on last year's end-of-grade reading assessment. This means that 62% of my students are at signifiant risk in reading, and are in great need of remediation resources. This request is for basic school supplies needed for a successful year. By providing these items, each student can be prepared for our daily lessons without adding extra expense to families that are already struggling financially. The requested supplies will be used in our daily reading and writing lessons, and during our remediation sessions by providing basic writing and school supplies. The laminator will be used to laminate students' extraordinary work samples to be displayed on our writing wall.
