As the excitement of the new school year has worn off and the challenges students face has increased, the need for a safe and calming space has been crucial. Many students have already utilized the books, toys and furniture that was purchased through these donations. \r\n\r\nNearly every day students seeking connection and comfort come by my office and sit in the cozy chair beside my desk and tell me about their day, their problems and what they are looking forward to that day. Several students have come to my office to calm down when they are emotionally dysregulated or in crisis. During these tough moments students have used legos, books, and toys to help soothe themselves as well as talk about big feelings and problems. \r\n\r\nMany students struggling to develop strong social skills and conflict resolution skills have found the puppets to be a fun way to role play and explore possible scenarios and outcomes when faced with difficult situations.
