Because of your support, my classroom has been transformed in meaningful and lasting ways through the addition of weighted vests and new writing markers. These resources are now part of our daily routine and have had a powerful impact on how my students regulate their bodies, engage in learning, and build confidence as writers. Many of my students experience sensory processing challenges that make it difficult to stay calm, focused, and ready to learn. The weighted vests have become a key tool in helping students feel grounded and secure throughout the school day. When students first saw the vests, their faces immediately lit up with excitement and curiosity. Several students wanted to try them on right away, while others carefully observed their peers before deciding they wanted one too. Almost instantly, I noticed changes, students who previously struggled to remain seated were able to attend for longer periods, transitions became smoother, and students were more relaxed and regulated during instructional time. The markers were equally exciting. Writing tasks can be intimidating for some of my students, but the bright colors and smooth grip of the markers motivated even my most hesitant writers to pick them up and try.\r\nOne particularly meaningful moment occurred during a small-group writing activity focused on practicing letter formation and name writing. A student who often avoids writing tasks willingly chose a blue marker to trace their name. With increased focus and calm, the student completed the task with minimal prompting and proudly showed their work to peers and staff. This may seem like a small accomplishment, but for that child, it represented growth in fine motor skills, confidence, and independence. Because the markers are bright on paper, students are less frustrated and more willing to practice writing repeatedly. The weighted vests help students remain engaged long enough to complete tasks they previously found overwhelming. These tools have helped create a classroom environment where students feel safe taking risks, trying new skills, and celebrating their successes.\r\nYour generosity has not only supported our current learning but has also opened doors for what comes next. As we continue our literacy and fine motor development work, students will use the markers to engage in multi-sensory writing activities such as tracing letters in different colors, coloring, and fine motor tasks. The weighted vests will continue to support self-regulation during these lessons, as well as during transitions, whole-group instruction, and inclusive classroom experiences. Over time, students will learn to independently recognize when they need sensory support and advocate for using tools like the weighted vests to help themselves succeed. Because of you, my students are learning more than just academic skills they are learning how to understand their bodies, express themselves, and build independence. They also are responsible for their mail and transfer it from the main box to their folders.
