I teach at a school where many children are economically disadvantaged and many students do not have any books in their home. My students struggle with many challenges before they even enter the classroom, which makes learning difficult. Today, many students do not read for fun, and their reading skills are behind where they should be. This makes learning a play like Shakespeare's Macbeth extra challenging and often very frustrating. \r\n\r\nThe graphic novel of Macbeth, however, is a game changer for many of my students. Teens love graphic novels, which makes reading Shakespeare a lot more accessable and also engaging for students. The pictures help students understand Shakespeare's rich language, while also following the plot. The graphic novel brings the story to life in a visual way that is both life-like and entertaining. This is especially helpful for newer English Learners, which comprise a large portion of the students in my classroom. \r\n\r\nIt is so gratifying to hear students say, \"Oh- I get it!\" or talk about a scene from the book that they are enjoing. My goal is to help students enjoy Shakespeare and be able to think and write critically and thoughtfully about the novel's themes. The photos I provided are of my students outlining an essay they are writing about the play with the use of the graphic novel. \r\n\r\nYour donation has made it possible for me to have the resources and support I need to teach my students. I can not express what this means to me and how wonderful it is to know that people like you care about making sure all children have the materials they need to succeed in school.","fullyFundedDate":1759264386955,"projectUrl":"project/graphic-novels-engage-kids/9676755/","projectTitle":"Graphic Novels Engage Kids","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. MacDonald","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5661456_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1757181367750","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5661456"},{"teacherId":2323251,"projectId":9240211,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the copies of To Kill a Mockingbird!
