During the first weeks of school, I observed how students were treating their devices and materials and then assigned the newer headphones accordingly. The students who have the new headphones as their assigned pairs are very happy with their performance and they are taking excellent care of them.\r\n\r\nThe new headphones are more comfortable for students to wear and significantly more sturdy. I expect that they will last for many years.\r\n\r\nBecause headphones are assigned and numbered, there are some students who probably still haven't realized that not all headphones are created equally in our classroom. I was working with a small group one day last month and a student exclaimed, \"Why do his headphones look like that and mine look all beat up?!\" I explained that a grant had enabled me to purchase some upgraded headphones but most students have the original sets I had purchased and he graciously accepted the explanation. The new calculators are wonderful and are much appreciated by my students. Students were asked to vote on which calculator they prefer using (see photo with all the red stickers) and students overwhelmingly prefer the new TI-108s. It turns out not all calculators are created equally!\r\n\r\nThe clear plastic bins, which I bought with the intension of using for calculator storage/distribution have served many purposes beyond this already. The bins are very sturdy and the handles make them so convenient to use and move around. With the addition of new guitar strings, we were able to repair and maintain our existing instruments, ensuring that every student has access to a fully functional guitar during class. This not only increased student participation and enthusiasm but also allowed us to keep our instrument inventory in working condition without the need for expensive replacements. Students take pride in caring for their instruments, and having strings readily available has empowered them to take responsibility for their learning and musicianship.\r\n\r\nEqually transformative was the installation of guitar wall mounts, which significantly improved the organization and safety of our classroom. By mounting the guitars on the wall, we've protected them from being knocked over or stepped on when stored on the floor. This has reduced wear and tear, extended the instruments' longevity, and created a cleaner, more spacious environment where students can move freely and safely. The wall-mounted display also gives the room a professional, inspiring feel that encourages students to treat the instruments with respect.
