I teach at a Title 1 middle school in Washington, DC. I have the gift of working in the same neighborhood where I live and I love running into students while on errands, gardening in my yard, or picking up my kids at their school. Each year, I teach between 110 and 150 6th and 8th grade students. Students are appreciative of the varied learning experiences they are able to be a part of in my science classes. Fifty-six percent of my students are Hispanic/Latino, 39% are Black, 3% are White, and 1% are Asian. Thirty-six percent of my students are English Language Learners.
