My student-centered 8th grade classroom is a den of creativity and a respite from the exhaustion of middle school and growing up too quickly. We delve deeply into the world of books to explore themes that resonate with our lives. Middle school students are at an age at which they want to engage with the outside world and I provide them with these opportunities as much as possible expanding the meaning of literacy to include not only reading books and newspaper and journal articles, but also the world around us.
