Although we also have a school library, there is a lost opportunity for real-time interest and curiosity when there isn't a collection of books available in an English classroom. I am moving from teaching AP English Language to sixth grade and need a more diverse selection of texts that will meet my students' interests and reading levels. Having an abundant, up-to-date, and diverse classroom library will allow me as a teacher to direct students to books that can re-ignite their love of reading on-the-spot. Furthermore, I have attempted to pick books that will mirror my students' lives so that they can see themselves in the literature they read. All too often students are forced to read books that are not relatable to their unique experiences and this can lead them to resent and even abandon reading.
