I have created dynamic displays in the library that feature the new books, and both teachers and students have noticed, admired, and selected them. As I have processed the texts into library books, I have even had students ask to reserve them before they are made available in the general collection- so they can read them first! The Ordinary People Change the World series is highly engaging to students across grade levels at our school, and students have shared that they like how the books are written and that they have learned a lot from reading them. Likewise, The Little People, BIG DREAMS series has grabbed the attention of both teachers and students, and their format has invited readers to explore and learn about individuals who are known and unknown to them. \r\n\tRecently, I collaborated with a classroom teacher to introduce 3rd grade students to the biography genre as part of a hands-on project, and we used titles from the donated Little People, BIG DREAMS series to guide their research. Assigning students to their subjects felt like a draft pick as I announced names, provided one interesting fact about each person, and students' hands shot up trying to 'win' the book! Students cheered, called dibs on the book after its winner finished, and excitedly poured through the pages while sharing learned facts with their classmates. Our students' energy during this introduction to biography research was a direct result of having access to the gifted texts. \r\n\tThe biographies that we received through the Donors Choose project have quickly become a highly sought after asset in our collection. Students' are excited to read them and share their learning with others. They have also begun to ask for biographies about other individuals that they are interested in learning about, which is a new trend for our library. The project's materials have piqued our students' interests, and they are eager to read more about and learn from the lives of others. My Pre-K 4 students are curious and creative learners, who love to explore and get messy! I created this project to provide them with some fun, hands-on learning experiences outdoors. With the generosity of our donors, we were able to secure some awesome resources and activities for the kids to continue their outdoor learning. \r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the materials, they were absolutely thrilled! They love our wagon, which is always prepared for outside activities and carries our water bottles, outdoor toys, and first aid kit! We were able to fill the wagon with chalk, bubbles, outdoor balls, binoculars and shovels. These toys and tools are available to our students each time we go outside. This has made our playground time so much better, with plenty of options for all of the students to play with. \r\n\r\nWe also love all of our science equipment and can't wait to use our butterfly and ladybug kits to learn about life cycles. This is always a favorite activity of my students in the past. The materials from this project are being used daily to support my students as they practice spelling patterns, phonics, and word-building in a structured, multi sensory way. When the materials first arrived, the students were incredibly excited to explore them. They wanted to touch, sort, and practice with the tools, which made our lessons even more engaging and fun. These resources allowed my students to physically manipulate sounds and letters, helping them strengthen the connection between what they hear, see, and write. \r\n\r\nSince incorporating these materials into our lessons, my students have become more confident and motivated during reading and spelling practice. The hands-on tools make learning interactive, and I have already seen students take greater ownership of their learning. As we continue working with these resources, the next step for my students is to apply their growing spelling and decoding skills to reading connected text with greater accuracy and confidence. Every item donated has been put to great use and students are learning and enjoying school thanks to the materials. I'll start with the doorbell this item is teaching responsibility all students hear the doorbell but once a week a student is in charge of opening the door. It's amazing how something so simple can help make the students feel more involved in the classroom. The two-sided tape held up their work which is displayed in the classroom this helps them learn new words in both English and Spanish and it gives them a sense of ownership for their learning because they are using their own work (class decor) to learn. The sticker motivates them to finish their work and get that immediate reward that many of them need. The flags are expanding their world, every time we read a new book, we talk about the author and where he/she is from.
