We use books to work on skills such as reading comprehension, vocabulary, identifying the main idea and details, making predictions, and making connections to the text. We also talk about characters, problems and solutions, and how the story connects to things we may experience in our own lives. Having new and engaging books gives me more choices when planning lessons and helps me find books that connect with different student interests.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is more than just sitting quietly and reading a book. We read together, listen to stories, read with partners, and spend time talking about what we are reading. I have noticed that some of my students who are usually hesitant to participate are more willing to join in when they are interested in the book. Seeing students get excited about a story, ask questions, and want to know what happens next is one of my favorite parts of teaching reading.\r\n\r\nThese books will continue to be used throughout the school year during whole-group lessons, small-group instruction, and independent reading. Because of your support, my classroom was transformed into a bustling hub of real-world learning and literary exploration, and the impact on my students has been profound.\r\n\r\nReal-World Math: Buying and Budgeting\r\nThe financial literacy materials you provided a real-world exercise on budgeting and purchasing. The students really had to think about how they wanted to spend their \"money\". \r\n\r\nThe Impact: Students learned how to manage a mock budget, make critical choices between \"wants\" and \"needs,\" and calculate costs and change. Seeing them collaborate, debate whether an item was worth its \"cost,\" and successfully balance their budgets has been incredibly rewarding. This will give them practical life skills that will serve them for years to come.\r\n\r\nThe excitement didn't stop there! Thanks to your funding, I was able to host a spectacular \"Book Tasting\" and Reading Cafe. We transformed our pod into a cozy, cafe-style environment where students could \"sample\" different genres and books.\r\n\r\nThe Impact: This event was an absolute hit. Students who typically struggle to find a book they enjoy were completely engaged, flipping through pages and enthusiastically discussing their \"menu\" options with peers. It broke down the intimidation barrier that some reluctant readers face and sparked a genuine curiosity about new stories. Several students walked away with a brand-new list of books they cannot wait to read.\r\n\r\nYour belief in my classroom has provided my students with unforgettable experiences.
