Through this project, I hope to incorporate more left brain activities in my already creative classroom. My students know they can express themselves through visual art, but I also want them to learn how large of a part science, math, and engineering play in creating art. With the wooden blocks, I will supplement my small collection and allow more students at one time to design architectural works. Many students struggle to see the connection between art and other more "relevant" fields. The Legos are to encourage imaginative mechanical inventions, and to provide a different type of creative engagement. I also want to provide students with tangrams and tangram puzzles- geometric manipulative shapes that can be arranged in specific ways and create a variety of recognizable objects. With your help, I can successfully integrate STEM learning into my art room in a meaningful way.
